Adjusting the Husqvarna 135 Chainsaw

Against the backdrop of the “dominance” of Stils of various brands on the Russian and Ukrainian markets, sometimes it’s nice to look around and see alternative gasoline saws produced by famous brands and intended for use as a home unit for short-term, not too intensive uses. They differ favorably in price (considering the model costs less than 12 thousand rubles), they will also last a long time and will provide high-quality sawing, subject to careful use.

An example of such a saw for a small household is the Husqvarna 135 chainsaw, which has an engine power of just under 2 horsepower (1500 watts), an engine capacity of 40.9 cubic centimeters and a tire length of 40 centimeters. The chainsaw has a fairly light weight of 4.4 kilograms (without bar, chain, chain oil and a mixture of gasoline and motor oil) and a comfortable grip. The saw chain pitch is 3/8 inch, which makes it almost universal and allows you to use chains not only from Husqvarna, but also from other manufacturers.

Husqvarna 135 chainsaw device

The design and configuration of the chainsaw is typical for most types of saws, including those from other manufacturers. The parts of the unit are 99% interchangeable; when selecting and ordering, you can use spare parts from many other Husqvarna chainsaws, in particular those suitable for models 140, 435, 440. In most cases, unless otherwise stated, parts suitable for these saws will be available also use on model 135.

Some changes and features of the device can be clarified by the markings. The letter “E” following the numbers in the model name means a starter with an additional spring and with 4 “legs” instead of two in the basic modifications of the models. In addition, these models do not require the use of a special tool to tension the chain; the chain can be replaced without a tool. All basic models differ from modified ones in that to replace and tension the chain you must use the included slotted screwdriver.

“1” in the model name is the 3/8″ x 1.3 mm saw set used. “4” – chains and tires 0.325″ x 1.3 mm.

Structurally, the chainsaw consists of:

  • Handles (front, rear and starter handle);
  • Covers (cylinder, clutch and starter);
  • Chain brake handles;
  • Reservoir for fuel and chain oil;
  • Gas control levers, air damper, throttle lock;
  • Ignition switch;
  • Silencer;
  • Tires with its guide and end sprocket;
  • Chains with a tension screw;
  • Protective shield for the right hand.

Peculiarities

Chainsaw Husqvarna 135 16

The Husqvarna 135 16 X Torq chainsaw has a structure typical of many gasoline chainsaws. The traction force is created by a 2-stroke carburetor-type engine, the working capacity of which is 40.9 cm3. It runs on a fuel mixture of AI-92 gasoline and oil for 2-stroke gasoline engines in a ratio of 50:1.

The saw unit consists of a 40 cm guide bar and a blade with a standard 3/8-inch pitch, which makes it much easier to replace in case of breakage or wear. It develops an impressive speed for a household chainsaw - 17 m/s.

The Husqvarna 135 16 chainsaw requires minimal maintenance, which comes down mainly to periodically sharpening the chain and adjusting its tension, filling the gas tank with fuel mixture and the crankcase with chain oil.

Carburetor Husqvarna 135

The price of an original carburetor for a chainsaw at the time of writing (2017) is approximately 1/4 of the cost of the entire unit and ranges from 3,200 to 3,500 rubles. The original spare part is suitable, as mentioned above, for models 135,135e,140,140e, 435,435e,440e - thus its prevalence is very high.

Chainsaw chain

The advantage of these chainsaw models is the standard parameters of chainsaw chains. Almost any chain with a bar length (40 centimeters in general) with a groove width of 1.3 millimeters will do, the chain pitch depends on the model. For those starting with “1” - 3/8″ - which is true for model 135, for analogues starting with “4” - 0.325″.

In any case, you can use any chains for a chainsaw; it is only important to monitor its tension. To adjust the chain tension, you should use an adjusting screw and the rule is that the chain should not sag on the bar, sit quite firmly, but at the same time should not interfere with the rotation of the sprocket; when turned off, the chain should easily scroll along the chainsaw bar by hand.

Announcement:

An important feature when adjusting is that during operation the chain stretches slightly, so it is necessary to periodically check its tension. Correct adjustment will be in increments of 1/4 turn of the adjusting screw.

Good value for money. Convenient to work with the saw. Enough power, but haven't used it much yet

I bought it at a good price. Works easily. But I haven’t worked with it enough to identify the problems yet. The run-in went well

1. Assembled in the USA, although Shtil 180 writes that too, but recently the quality of 180 has sharply decreased. 2. Engine with X-Torq technology - the manufacturer positions it as more environmentally friendly, in fact, the engine has better traction at medium and high speeds; in calm weather, a model with a similar technology is more expensive 3. Air purification system. Firstly, the filter itself is nylon, and not a rag like Shtil’s. Secondly, in fact, less debris accumulates in the filter area due to the special circulation system.

If your hands are crooked, you can immediately fill the candle. This is due to the characteristics of the engine, the carburetor setting at the factory and our gasoline. The main thing is to WARM UP the engine at medium speed for 20-40 seconds after opening the damper! Nothing more significant.

Over a relatively short period of use (3 months) in the construction of log houses, all 135 saws I have, which is 5 units for 5 teams, not one of them caused any serious problems! In fact, this is a 435 saw, at least a 1 in 1 piston saw. For everyday life, it’s a fairy tale!

Carburetor adjustment

Carburetor adjustment ensures the correct ratio of the amount of fuel supplied and the amount of air supplied to the engine combustion chamber. Before you start adjusting the carburetor, you must:

  1. Check the air filter. Often, filter clogging is caused by interruptions in the operation of the chainsaw (more than 50% of such cases and simple cleaning “saves” from unnecessary carburetor adjustments);
  2. Make sure the fuel and oil mixture is correct. The ratio of gasoline (it is recommended to use 95 or high-quality 92) and oil should be in the range from 1 to 50 to 1 to 40. Use only high-quality fuel and oil! Any technical service will tell you that a significant part of the problems with chainsaws arise due to low-quality fuel. Problems with chainsaws idling or speed during operation are among these.
  3. Make sure that the fuel-oil mixture is prepared no earlier than 7-10 days ago. The long-prepared mixture gradually “degrades.” Fuel should be mixed in small containers.
  4. Check chain tension. A chain that is too tight can prevent the tire from idling.

If all conditions are met, you can begin adjusting the carburetor. To do this, use the idle speed adjustment screw so that the chain does not move at idle. The adjusting screw should be rotated carefully, approximately 1/16 of a turn, in order to “catch” the moment at which the saw’s power is maximum, but no idle rotation occurs. If any difficulties arise, please contact the service center.

Step-by-step adjustment

Experts recommend that you independently adjust the carburetor in the model in question, adhering to the following plan:

  1. First of all, you need to adjust 1 screw, then proceed to the second and only lastly start adjusting the screw responsible for idle speed.
  2. Next, you need to determine what the highest idle speed is. To do this, you need to carefully turn 1 screw clockwise. Having found the largest indicator, the element should be turned ¼ turn counterclockwise. If during this operation the chain continues to rotate while idling, screw T must be slowly turned counterclockwise until the chain stops rotating.
  3. Using screw H for adjustment, you can actually change both the power of the unit and its speed. However, it is worth keeping in mind that if the carburetor operates for a long time using the usual mixture and at high speeds, this may cause the chainsaw to fail.
  4. To adjust screw H, you need to take the following steps:
  • warm up the engine of the unit for 15-20 seconds, selecting full speed mode;
  • turn the H-element counterclockwise ¼ turn;
  • leave the engine running for 10-15 seconds;
  • using a tachometer, analyze what the maximum speed is;
  • If the received data does not match the passport data, the process should be repeated again.

The four-stroke sound of the engine will help you understand that the adjustment has been made correctly. If the mixture is too lean after adjustment, the unit will make a squealing sound. If the mixture is too rich, smoke will begin to appear from the muffler. If home craftsmen have a device called a tachometer in their arsenal, then you can begin to independently adjust the H-screw. In other circumstances, it is better to seek help from specialists.

  1. After the first elements have been adjusted, you can begin adjusting the idle speed screw, performing the operation in the following sequence:
  • Having activated the engine, you should carefully begin to turn the screw T clockwise;
  • it is necessary to rotate the element until the unit chain begins to rotate;
  • at the next stage, the screw must be turned in the opposite direction to stop the rotating movements of the chain.

To understand that it was possible to correctly set the idle speed, uniform operation of the engine, in any direction, with the necessary reserve of revolutions, while the chain rotates, will help.

The above instructions for adjusting the Husqvarna 236 carburetor will greatly simplify the work. But if some stage still causes difficulties, everyone can find a hint by visiting an Internet resource and watching a video tutorial on this topic.

You can independently understand that the work was done correctly by the operation of the engine, which should accelerate instantly and make a four-stroke sound at full throttle. If the unit starts with difficulty and the engine cannot accelerate immediately, the first screw should be readjusted again to enrich the lean mixture.

Modern chainsaws have a complex system and consist of several main components that periodically require maintenance and adjustment. In this article we will talk about how to adjust the carburetor on a Husqvarna chainsaw.

Reviews of the Husqvarna 135 chainsaw

Reviews of Husqvarna 135 should be divided into two categories. From users and from those who repair them. As for the latter, everything is in order. A large number of spare parts, both original and analogues, good reliability and maintainability (unlike many Chinese “analogs”) make the saw a welcome guest in any workshop. Moreover, she gets there quite rarely. However, it also has disadvantages from a repair point of view. First of all, there are a large number of fragile plastic parts that, if they break, are difficult to replace.

Chainsaw users note ease of use, low weight, a very convenient chain tensioner, and convenient control handles, which, unlike the calm ones, you are not afraid of breaking as advantages.

In total, the sites contain dozens of reviews from Husqvarne 135, but most of them are positive. There are also negative reviews indicating shortcomings. In some cases, the chainsaw quickly broke down before it was even out of warranty. Having a warranty repair or replacement will help save the buyer from negativity in such a situation.
