Break-in period for the Shtil chainsaw
In the usual sense, there is no break-in for the Stihl 180 saw. It is initially ready to work. However, the equipment owner needs to know and understand the following:
- For the first 4 to 8 full fuel tanks, the operation of the gasoline saw should be carried out in a gentle mode, not at the full power of the power plant, with frequent breaks to cool the tool.

- idle speed, etc.
After sawing work the following is carried out:
- cleaning the chainsaw;
- the chain tension is weakened (required);
- chain sharpening (if necessary);
- condition of the tire, its wear;
- filter maintenance (as needed).

Maintenance
Maintenance work on the chain saw is carried out regularly at certain intervals. Let's look at the basic necessary work that needs to be done during the sawing process.
1. Filling with fuel - fuel is poured outdoors, pay special attention to tightening the fuel tank cap completely.
2. Before starting, check the brake, properly tension the chain, and tighten the sprocket cover nuts until tight.
3. After starting, check the operation of the tire lubrication pump, bring the saw unit to a level surface and rev up the engine. On a flat surface, a trace of oil will be visible from rotation.
4. When replacing the chain, be sure to clean the groove at the guide bar and the oil passage hole for lubrication from sawdust.
5. Timely replacement of fuel and air filters.
