Video: Lawn mower repair

Good afternoon.
There is a new lawn mower with a B&S 450e engine. The company of the lawn mower itself is “no-brand”. Course of events: On the first day, oil was added to the maximum level on the dipstick, a little gasoline was added to the tank. It started from the first pull of the cord, which made me happy. I worked for about an hour and a half with frequent breaks. No problem. A couple of times it seemed to stall on its own out of the blue, but no particular attention was paid to it. I worked until the gasoline was completely exhausted, until I started sneezing from its lack. I was taken on vacation without gasoline. The next day the same gasoline was added. (stored in a plastic canister made of gasoline-insoluble plastic) It started with the second pull of the cord, but the engine began to run unevenly, coughing or thumping. And it doesn’t feel like coping with grass on the first day. Mows weaker. It was decided to mow this way, in the hope that it would go away and warm up. Didn't warm up. Sometimes it stalled out of the blue, without hitting the grass. After which it started from the second to fifth time. Finally it stalled out of the blue and refused to start at all. (And this is on the second day of operation) Gasoline is normal, oil is at the maximum mark on the dipstick. The spark plug was unscrewed and the contacts were blackened, so they were cleaned with fine sandpaper until shiny. Just in case, 60 ml of oil was pumped out with a syringe. The cleaned spark plug was returned to its place; when trying to start it, out of 30-40 jerks, 2 second starts occurred, followed by a spontaneous stop. A new candle was purchased - the result did not change. It won't start at all. After this, the spark plug was unscrewed and checked for a spark when the starter cord was pulled out - but there was none. How so? The plastic engine casing, which is on three bolts, has been removed. And a visual inspection revealed that a wire from the spark plug stretches to an “interesting structure”, which in some cunning way contacts the engine brake, which operates by pressing the brake handle. Without going into the essence of the operation of the cunning system, it was decided to remove the factory paint from places where the wiring coming from the spark plug could have lost contact with the design of the engine brake system. When the excess paint was scraped off and the tip of the copper wire was cleared of the paint that had fallen on it when the mower was painted black, after installing the casing, a spark began to appear on the spark plug when the cord was pulled. The spark plug was screwed into place, the engine started and ran smoothly, without failures! Hooray. But after working without load for about 30 seconds, it suddenly began to fail again, working unstably. And even stalled. The casing was removed again, the contact areas of the wires were cleaned better, and the factory grease was removed in places where, according to engineers, the contacting parts of the brake system rub. After this, the mower started up, but after about 2 minutes it began to work unstably again. But since it did not stall, and mowed quite normally, it was decided to work as is. After about 10 minutes, it even seemed to start working smoothly, almost without failures, which made me happy. On the fourth day, the mower started again the first time and the engine ran smoothly... but not for long. And literally a minute later it began to work unevenly again and with a loss of power. Stall out of the blue. It started up, ran smoothly for the first seconds, then ran rough again and stalled. Finally refused to start. The casing has been removed, the wiring is crimped as tightly as possible around the place where it obviously loses contact due to vibration. The oil (three days old) was drained and fresh oil was added! And after assembly, it started again. At first the engine ran smoothly, then dropped to rough operation, but it was decided to mow until it stalled. But she didn't stall. It worked and worked, and after 10-15 minutes it became obvious that the roughness of the engine had almost disappeared. Worked for 40-50 minutes. No complaints about the power. It remains to be seen what will happen next. Conclusion: Poor contact of the wire coming from the spark plug (in the area of the brake system) can cause the mower to refuse to work (it starts and stalls for no particular reason) and the mower to refuse to start (because there is no spark). But even if this contact is in order, the question remains about uneven revolutions. Why does the mower, after a short period of inactivity, start up for about 5 minutes, run smoothly and powerfully for a minute, and then its smooth engine speed becomes uneven, power is immediately lost and the grass is not cut so quickly. But if you don’t pay attention to this, then after 10 minutes the mower, as if having warmed up, is already working powerfully again.

Tell me please. What kind of symptoms could the engine have? (It starts up, runs smoothly and powerfully for a minute, then unevenness in the engine operation begins, but if you continue to mow, it will go away on its own as it warms up after 10-15 minutes)

The reasons why a chainsaw starts up and immediately stalls, does not develop speed and does not produce the highest power, and their elimination

Owners of chainsaws from time to time have to deal with the fact that the saw, for no apparent reason, stops working normally. Removing the lawn mower

stalls. In our article we will try to figure out why the chainsaw stalls in different operating modes and also outline how to diagnose the malfunction.

Features of the structure of lawn mowers

Most mowers are controlled by pushing from behind, but there are also models that can be controlled using a steering wheel.

A certain type of device is designed for different jobs. The small ones handle the average average area, while the larger steering mowers are used for larger lawns.

But all devices have the same structure. Let's start with the body. Gasoline mowers have aluminum and steel bodies.

Using the lawn mower you choose for your dacha, you can also mulch the lawn.
Aluminum ones are used much more often, since such a body is durable, lightweight and resistant to corrosion.
The steel housings contain a powerful and heavy motor. Electric lawn mowers are lighter than gasoline ones and their body is made of ABS plastic. It is used to create car bumpers.

The wheels of the mower should be large in diameter, so they can easily overcome uneven surfaces. They also create less pressure on the ground and do not injure the lawn. The bearings will ensure high reliability and durability.

Many manufacturers make the two front wheels swivel. This allows for increased maneuverability. The front wheels rotate around an axis, so you don't have to lift the mower to change direction. Let's talk about knives. All of them, as a rule, are rotary and located on the working shaft. The diameter of the blades determines the cutting width of the lawn mower.

The rotor performs the following functions :

  • supporting knives at a certain distance from the ground;
  • rotates quickly and cuts grass;
  • has blades that serve as a fan. The air flow from the fan carries the cut grass to the grass catcher.

All knives are made of high quality steel.
A grass catcher is a large bag or plastic box with holes for air. It is easily removed and the contents are thrown away.

Many mowers not only cut grass, but can also grind it into flour. This process is called mulching. In this case, do not use a grass catcher, since the greens will serve as fertilizer after mowing.

Important! Follow safety precautions when operating the lawn mower.

Why the lawn mower won't start, reasons

You can figure out what caused the device to malfunction by disassembling it. This must be done carefully and carefully; there are many small parts inside that are easy to break. There are 2 types of damage: mechanical, electrical. Let's look at the most popular reasons why a lawn mower won't start and stalls:

  • the carburetor has failed;
  • bolted connections have become loose;
  • motor breakdown;
  • moving components of the mechanism jam (crankshaft, piston);
  • blocking of the cutting tool (cylinder) by a foreign object - branches, sticks, hard grass, stones, etc.;
  • the oil and fuel supply system is broken;
  • the spark plug has failed;
  • the belt stretched, broke;
  • small or too large gap between parts inside the structure;
  • faulty device switch;
  • dirty fuel hose, ventilation grilles;
  • clogged air filter.

If you use a gasoline lawn mower for a long time without interruption, the device stalls. Why does my lawnmower stall and not start when hot? The motor is overvolted. It is better to postpone mowing and let the lawn mower stand after it has stalled; most likely the reason lies in the overheating of the device.

In some cases, this is a temporary phenomenon; after the engine has cooled down, the equipment can work again. But still, you shouldn’t spend hours mowing. With active use, the service life of the equipment decreases. On average, repairs are required 4 years after purchasing the product.

DIY electric lawn mower repair

Not only factory electric lawn mowers, but also homemade electric lawn mowers fail. The main reason the electric motor stops is loss of contact and lack of power at the motor terminals.

Therefore, first of all, we check the presence of voltage in the power outlet, the condition of the electrical cord and its absence. Then, if a commutator motor is used, you need to check the condition of the brushes and replace them if they are severely worn. A manual lawn mower with a brushed motor has increased durability, but requires regular brush replacement.

Manual lawn mowers with an induction motor also have problems. The phase-shifting capacitor often fails, but testing it in the field is problematic. An indirect sign of capacitor failure is:

  • twitching of the motor when power is applied;
  • strong engine heating even at low load;
  • reduced speed;
  • characteristic buzzing.

A do-it-yourself electric lawn mower is made from scrap materials that can fail. If a malfunction is detected, in any case, you need to make sure that voltage is supplied to the motor terminals, and if there is no voltage, check the operation of the switch.

If there is voltage, the capacitor or brushes are in order, then the most likely cause of the breakdown is a burnt out winding. In this case, the unit will have to be taken to a repair shop. Homemade electric lawn mowers most often have to be repaired independently, since when assembling the device, all the nuances of its operation are not taken into account.

What to do if the lawn mower starts and stalls{q}

Now let's look at all the problems described above in more detail.

  1. The lawn mower stalls when you press the gas.
  2. In principle, there can be a huge number of reasons why the engine of a brush cutter stops working when you press the gas. Here we will consider only the most common ones.

    Perhaps the air damper is simply clogged. And to eliminate the problem, it will be enough to simply clean the air damper. Also, the engine stalls due to a clogged air filter. To clean it, the filter should first be washed in a solvent and then blown with a stream of compressed air.

    A similar procedure should be carried out with a clogged fuel filter, which prevents the flow of fuel in the required volume when the engine speed increases.

    The engine may stall for other reasons. Firstly, the spacer located between the cylinder and the carburetor wore out, and secondly, the crankshaft seals began to suck in air.

  3. The brush cutter stalls when it gets hot.
  4. We have already indicated that in this case the problem is in the carburetor. Due to increased temperatures, gasoline begins to boil in it, which is why the air-fuel mixture ceases to form or its quality critically decreases.

    In addition, this problem may arise due to the fact that the carburetor is equipped with a rotary valve rather than a disc valve. If the problem has become chronic, then it should be solved radically - by purchasing a new carburetor with a disc valve.

  5. The brushcutter starts and stalls.
  6. Most likely, access to the fuel tank is difficult or completely absent, which is why a zone of low pressure is formed in it, due to which the engine stops receiving fuel in the required quantity and because of this you stop working.

  7. The brush cutter stalls at idle speed.
  8. The engine may stall at idle for the following reasons:

  • Gearbox overheats
    News oneNews oneNews oneNews oneNews one

    got ready and began to prepare a not quite normal gasoline solution, which is why the speed on the drum began to drop;

  • The carburetor is clogged;
  • The carburetor is not adjusted correctly;
  • The throttle valve is dirty;
  • The choke is open, causing too much air to enter the carburetor, making the air-fuel mixture lean;
  • The air filter is clogged.

To fix most problems you will need spare parts, and Well Part is ready to provide them to you at the best price.

So, why does the trimmer stall when you press the gas {q} There may be several reasons for this problem.

  1. The carburetor has become out of adjustment after an unsuccessful winter or after using the lawn mower too intensively. A gasoline trimmer operates on an air-fuel mixture prepared by a carburetor. If adjusted incorrectly, this mechanism prepares a lean mixture, which is not capable of providing the engine with sufficiently high speeds. You can tell about a problem with the carburetor by the characteristic vibrations of the lawn mower.
  2. You will know that the fuel filter is clogged by the fact that the trimmer starts and stalls. In other words, the flow of fuel is enough to start the lawn mower, but not enough to keep the engine running. It may be possible to solve the problem by loosening the valves on the filter. If not, you should wash the filter in solvents and blow it with compressed air. If after this the problem is not solved, then you should purchase a new fuel filter.
  3. If the engine stalls at speeds close to maximum, then there may be a problem with the breather, which regulates the flow of air into the gas tank. When fuel is consumed too quickly, which is typical when you step on the gas, a rarefied pressure forms in the gas tank, which reduces the flow of fuel to the engine.
  4. The engine stalls when the throttle is opened. The problem, again, is related to the carburetor, which, due to excess air, prepares a lean air-fuel mixture, which is not capable of ensuring engine operation.
