Which truck is better KamAZ-4310 or Ural-4320?

Trucks are used not only in urban environments, but also in hard-to-reach areas . Logging, military and rescue operations, pipeline installation in the taiga or mountainous areas - everywhere you need trucks that can cope with off-road conditions.

KamaAZ-4310

The first batch of KamAZ trucks was produced in 1981.

This all-wheel drive three-axle onboard vehicle is capable of overcoming various difficult obstacles : steep ascents, descents (with an inclination angle of up to 31 degrees).

reservoirs up to 1.5 m deep. The main production is located in Naberezhnye Chelny. KamAZ trucks are assembled in countries such as Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Kazakhstan.

KamAZ was developed by institutes, advanced organizations of the Soviet Union: Giproavtoprom, Promstroyproekt, Giprodvigatel. The prototypes for the first generation of KamAZ engines and power units were ZIL-170, ZIL-175, the brainchild of the Moscow Automobile Plant named after. I.A. Likhachev and Yaroslavl Motor Plant.

What do KamAZ and Ural have in common?

Both truck models are distinguished by reliability , ease of maintenance , and increased cross-country ability . They were designed for use in the armed forces.

The Ural is more suitable as an advanced vehicle, KamAZ - as a rear vehicle, for material support, supply of fuel and products. Armored cars for special purposes are assembled on the basis of both cars.

What is the difference between KamAZ and Ural?

KamAZ differs from the Urals:

  1. Low noise level in the cabin.
  2. Less load capacity, maneuverability, engine reliability.
  3. Good maneuverability.
  4. Greater cost and efficiency.

The Ural is unpretentious in repair.

One of the parameters characterizing the cross-country ability of a vehicle is the ratio of traction force to weight . For Ural-4320 it is higher than for KamAZ-4310. In a plowed field or swampy area, the KamAZ will most likely get stuck. But the Urals freely pass through sand, arable land, and wetlands.

Reviews from drivers and car owners

Drivers who worked on the Ural-4320 describe the vehicle as an all-terrain cargo vehicle . This car is praised for its unpretentiousness, endurance, and ease of repair.

KamAZ is described as the most comfortable car . A powerful stove and heat from the engine in winter, severe cold, become the driver’s best friends.

In addition to technical advantages, the cross-country ability of these cars is influenced by driver skills in using pumping, transfer case, and gearbox. ability to choose the right speed limit.

Motorcycle “Ural”

The history of the "Ural", which began on the eve of the Great Patriotic War, is inextricably linked with the history of the Irbit motorcycle appeared in 1961 in relation to the motorcycle model M-62, which was a modernized version of the M-72 motorcycle. The M-72, in turn, was an almost exact copy of the German BMW R71 motorcycle. The development of its production was carried out by MMZ - Moscow Motorcycle Plant. The M-72 went into production in 1941, but it was not produced in Moscow for long. Already in the fall of 1941, the plant was evacuated to the Urals, to the city of Irbit in the Sverdlovsk region. Already in February 1942, the first batch of motorcycles was produced here. After the end of the war, the plant remained in Irbit, continuing to produce and improve M-72 motorcycles. The latest model, for example, even received a short-lever fork and aluminum wheel hubs.

"URAL" M-62

The Ural M-62 motorcycle was noticeably different from its predecessor. It received a new engine with a volume of 650 cm³ and a power of 28 hp. s, new gearbox, increased suspension travel. Automatic ignition advance was introduced and the camshaft cam profile was changed to reduce wear. The steering also changed - a chain throttle grip and duralumin clutch and brake levers were introduced. The motorcycle was produced in this form until 1965.

"URAL-2"

In 1963, a new model appeared - M-63 "Ural-2". The immediate impetus for the design of the M-63 was the decision of a special commission to unify the motorcycles of the Irbit and Kyiv motorcycle plants. The design differences of these machines, sometimes small, made the interchangeability of individual components and parts impossible. Carrying out this decision, the IMZ design team designed the M-63 motorcycle. Its main components and assemblies are interchangeable with the components and assemblies of the K-650 motorcycle, the production of which was to be mastered in Kyiv. The M-63 motorcycle, unlike its predecessors, was equipped with a frame with a pendulum suspension of the rear wheel. The new exhaust system made it possible to significantly reduce exhaust noise; the mufflers were raised above the ground (when the motorcycle was fully loaded, the ground clearance was 150 mm). The motorcycle engine has undergone numerous improvements. The first industrial batch of Ural-2 motorcycles, model M-63, was produced by the Irbit Motor Plant in 1964. At first, the M-63 was equipped with engines from the M-62 Ural motorcycle, but with some changes.

The gearbox of the Ural-2 motorcycle was also similar to the M-62 Ural, but the weak point was eliminated - the quickly worn out axle and foot shift pedal bushing. The chassis has undergone a radical reconstruction. For the first time on production IMZ motorcycles, a pendulum suspension with spring-hydraulic shock absorbers was introduced to suspend the rear wheel (later a similar suspension was introduced on the sidecar wheel), which significantly increased the comfort of the motorcycle and its durability. The hydraulic part of the rear shock absorbers was almost completely borrowed from the shock absorbers of the Moskvich car. The pendulum fork of the rear wheel was installed in the frame on rubber silent blocks. The front wheel suspension remained the same design, but became the same for motorcycles from the Irbit and Kyiv motorcycle factories. New mud flaps were expanded along the profile and installed above the wheel with large gaps; in their lower part there were special rubber mud flaps. The gas tank has also changed and has become easier to manufacture.

OTHER MODELS

Since 1971, the M-66 Ural-3 motorcycle with a 32 hp engine was produced. With. The M-67 version used a 36 hp engine. With. Since 1985, Ural IMZ-8 motorcycles of various modifications have been produced.

TACTICAL AND TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE M-63 "URAL-2" MOTORCYCLE

  • Weight (dry), kg: 320
  • Maximum load, including driver, passengers and cargo in the stroller, kg: 255
  • Overall dimensions, mm:
  • length: 2420
  • width: 1570
  • height: 1100
  • base: 1450
  • Maximum speed, km/h: 95

In recent years, modifications of the Ural IMZ-8.1037 Gear-UP, equipped with a 7.62 mm PKMB machine gun, and the Ural IMZ-8.1037 Gear-UP-ATGM with a Konkurs-M ATGM launcher have been proposed for the Armed Forces. However, according to the latest data, the Russian army has completely abandoned the use of motorcycles. Currently, only 3% of Ural motorcycles produced are sold in Russia and the CIS. The main markets for IMZ are the USA, EU countries, Canada, Australia, where the company exports up to 97% of its motorcycles. Promising markets are Japan and Korea, since in these countries there is demand and there are no competitors for models with a sidecar. Despite the fact that the appearance and many technical solutions of the motorcycle date back to the developments of pre-war Germany, IMZ positions the Ural as a simple and reliable motorcycle with a Russian (male) character. Most motorcycles are sold with a sidecar.

Ural or Kraz

UralUral or Kraz

Ural trucks are rightfully considered one of the most reliable vehicles among domestic vehicles, largely due to the fact that they were created for military purposes.

Hence their high cross-country ability, the use of super-durable materials for all parts, especially in the transmission, and a specially thought-out design for storage without a garage. The durability and unpretentiousness of Ural cars made them real people's favorites.

Trucks are bought for agricultural needs, used on construction sites and in the mining industries. The design solutions and variety of Ural chassis make it possible to mount almost any equipment on them.

Ural equipment is available in a large number of modifications. Traditionally, most models were intended for the army. Advanced models of weapons and military equipment were installed on the cabins of the Urals. Nowadays, most of the vehicles are used not in the military sphere, where you can also find special vehicles using the Ural-4320 as a chassis.

As for the Kraz brand, this equipment also has a long-standing reputation as reliable and trouble-free machines. They are widely used for transporting goods over long distances, construction sites, and industrial facilities. Among Krasov there are models of different carrying capacity, special timber trucks are produced, there are models in the form of road trains and trailers.

Kraz onboard vehicles and dump trucks are actively used in construction, transportation, and removal of ore and metals. Kraz and spare parts Kraz are often purchased to organize the delivery of large cargo to the most remote regions. Kraz is synonymous with cross-country ability and durability, ideal for use in extreme climatic conditions.

Bad weather and lack of roads are no obstacle for the powerful Kraz.

The debate about which car is better will probably not stop as long as the Ural and Kraz exist and are being improved. If we take the category of cross-country ability, then you can hear a lot in support of the Ural brand.

Reliability is often inherent in Krazas. But usually the votes for and against are divided equally. And this is normal, because each brand has its own characteristics, pros and cons.

To choose a car to suit your needs, you need to feel it and try it in action.

Operation in bad weather, on poor road surfaces, and under maximum loads requires timely replacement of worn-out spare parts. And Kraz spare parts and parts for trucks of both brands should be purchased only from reliable and trusted suppliers. One of these.

Its catalog of spare parts for cars, including the Ural cab, etc., will provide customers with trouble-free operation of most cars of this brand.

For each modification, specialists will select replacement parts, components and other equipment, and provide free advice on maintenance and repair of equipment.

Which is better Kraz or Kamaz? Just write why

Kraza has a plywood cabin! you know who makes them?

on a Kamaz, the tires burn out 2 times faster, my neighbor has both, he told me recently, and the chassis of the Kraz also lasts longer

Kraz, he has a healthy face in a head-on with the same Kraz or Ural, the chances of surviving are much greater than in a Kamaz, I saw how a Ural flew into a Kamaz on the highway near the Urals, the muzzle is slightly dented, and the Kamaz’s cabin is in the trash, it’s a solid thin sheet of iron

Just passable! Kamaz - less! Well, you can earn more money on Kamaz! if you put the Krazovsky engine on it!

You can't compare incomparable things!!!

Kraz mining vehicle is a slow-moving sluggish vehicle compared to a Kamaz

On a Kraz you can take a hell of a lot more at one time, but on a Kamaz it’s not enough, but quickly.

every one is good in his place

The Krazov engine is the best of all Soviet models (YaMZ-236, 238). They are installed on MAZs, the K-700 is the most unpretentious and economical. Kamaz is a weak car; driving it is a feat, especially in winter.

The gearboxes on KamAZ, also weak, are designed to the limit. Take the box from the Urals. Now the new Euro KamAZs are better. Yes, what are we even talking about... Foreign cargo cars of Scania, Manna, Volvo, etc.

-they are out of reach yet..

Kamaz and Ural comparison

The technical characteristics of a car are a set of basic indicators that give an idea of its capabilities during operation.

If we compare the technical characteristics of KAMAZ and the Urals, it should be noted that they are not much different. Let's try to compare the basic models of KAMAZ-4310 and Ural-4320 vehicles.

In both the first and the other cars, the total curb weight is almost the same (8715 and 8570 kg). The total weight of a KAMAZ vehicle is 15,100 kg, and that of a Ural vehicle is 13,795 kg.

The maximum speed, ground clearance and track of vehicles can be said to be the same. There are small differences that do not have a significant impact. KAMAZ is more maneuverable compared to the Urals.

The minimum turning radius of KAMAZ is 60 cm less than the turning radius of the Urals. (10.8 and 11.4 m). At the same time, the Ural is more economical in terms of specific fuel consumption.

So KAMAZ 4310 has a fuel consumption of 30 liters per 100 km, while the Ural consumes 26 l/100 km.

Regarding the comfort of the vehicles in use, it should be noted that KAMAZ is a more comfortable vehicle than the Ural, although the purpose of both vehicles is the same.

Thus, the Ural-4320 on-board vehicle is designed for transporting a variety of cargo, both without a trailer and with it, as well as for transporting people on any roads and terrain.

At the customer's request, the vehicle can be equipped with a cabin with an independent heater, a sealing system for units and components, a winch, wheel differential locks, and power take-offs.

A modification is produced - a truck tractor.

The KAMAZ-4310 onboard vehicle is also designed to transport a variety of cargo, both individually and with the help of trailers. KAMAZ is also used for transporting people and, at the request of the customer, is equipped with special additional devices.

The main difference between these vehicles is that the Ural can be used in any terrain and on all types of roads, while KAMAZ is intended for use on main roads.

The drivers compare very simply the characteristics of KAMAZ and Urals. They say: “The Urals are more iron!” And this characteristic is both figurative and, unfortunately, literal. That is, designers calculate reliability by changing the size of parts, and not by using high-quality materials.

In short, the Ural is more suitable for the Far North, while KAMAZ has advantages due to comfort and price.

Military equipment based on KAMAZ

The very first military vehicle with a multi-purpose purpose was considered to be the KAMAZ-4310. This all-wheel drive vehicle, with a payload capacity of six tons,.

Cars on the world market

OJSC KamAZ is a leader in the production of trucks, and today it is a powerful corporation that owns a wide range of vehicles.

KamAZ or KrAZ?

KrAZ is produced by the Kremenchug Automobile Plant, located in the Poltava region of Ukraine. This is a Soviet truck, which was, by right, .

Onboard tractor KamAZ-43118

The KamAZ-43118 onboard tractor is mass-produced by the Kama Automobile Plant based on a chassis of a similar brand. The car has a 6x6 wheel arrangement. .

The main competitors of KamAZ trucks

The main competitors of KamAZ trucks in the Russian heavy-duty transport market are, firstly, manufacturers of neighboring countries MAZ,.

Truck-mounted concrete pump 58152A (ABN-21)

The use of special equipment during active construction work is quite normal. Today, without such technical means, anyone.

KAMAZ – 63968 “Typhoon”

In 2010, Defense Minister Serdyukov approved a document providing for a concept for the development of army equipment for the Armed Forces.

KAMAZ onboard vehicles

Among the trucks that are produced in series, there are dump trucks, onboard tractors, and chassis vehicles. Each has its own area of application. .

I worked on both the first and second. More precisely, first on the MAZ 500th truck crane, I personally received a new car. He served her as expected, but by the will of fate he left her, passing her on to someone else. Let me note that the car worked without major breakdowns all its life. And then a KamAZ-4320 with a semi-trailer appeared in my life, not new, but well-maintained.

So the engine on KamAZ is the most problematic unit, before the winter road, and at that time I lived in Kolyma, where transportation was carried out only in winter, I had to completely remove all the heads and change the gaskets, otherwise you could freeze in the tundra with snot on the engine.

But this didn’t help either, if you warm up the engine a little somewhere on the pass, it will immediately leak... (If you warm it up a little, it won’t bring it to a boil). Then, later, about a year and a half later, the gearboxes began to fall apart, although the oil was changed more intensively than as prescribed by the factory.

In the early 90s, he moved to the “Mainland”, the European part of our Motherland, and got behind the wheel of the same KamAZ, but now 5420 – flatbed.

How does rating protection work?

Many different people communicate on the Ykt.Ru forums. As statistics show, most violations of legal requirements, especially in the form of outright insults and cases of inciting ethnic hatred, occur anonymously.

In this regard, topics, moderators and veterans of the forum are assigned the status of rating protection, indicated by the R icon. This means that anonymous or newly registered users cannot leave comments in this thread. The minimum rating for participation in these topics is currently set at 40.

To get it, it is enough, for example, to create one discussed top or leave it. The next day the user will already have the rating necessary to participate in R-topics.

In Germany, a military equipment enthusiast converted a Soviet military Ural for snow removal

In Germany, where there was a snowy winter this year, it is not always possible to clear the streets quickly. In a small village near Dresden, a resourceful lover of military equipment, and Soviet one at that, came up with a way to solve this problem. A rare Ural plus a tank engine - and no snowdrifts are scary. The machine is ready to cope with difficult tasks even in the summer.

The roar echoes throughout the village of Mittelseida, near Dresden. The streets, as the locals are sure, are now like in Siberia, but there is no such snow barrier that can withstand this Russian pressure. Crazy power. Engine from the T-55 tank. 400 horsepower. The length of the snow stream can reach 65 meters. Reliable as a tank - that's about him. No electronics. “Ural” is 34 years old, it is the former property of the GDR army.

Both the driver and the mechanic are a lover of Soviet military equipment, Andre Krumbiegel. It was he and his friends who saved the car from death a year ago. They wanted to sell the Soviet monster for scrap metal. The restoration took months of work, some parts had to be ordered from Russia, but now Andre is happy.

“It’s like I have butterflies in my stomach, it’s an amazing feeling when you restore and use such old and reliable equipment yourself. Goosebumps,” he says.

The girls I know also get goosebumps. The car already has its own fan club.

“The power is what it does to the snow. It’s not so easy to remove snow yourself, but for this machine it’s not a problem at all,” says village resident Nicole Hunger.

And Germany continues to be swept away. In just one night, up to 30 centimeters of new snow fell in some settlements.

“Our snow removal service, one might say, could not cope, so we are glad that such a machine is here. For emergencies. Always on standby,” says Sandra Günzel.

But this readiness costs as much as a spaceship. Only one full tank costs about five hundred euros.

“When I drive up, people at the gas station are clutching their heads because they need too much fuel. Their system does not allow you to fill so much at once. Already during the refueling process, you have to stop, pay and then add fuel, because about 500 liters are required,” says Andre.

A serious car for serious guys. Silvio Auerbach, another fan of Soviet technology, enthusiastically talks about what his friends are turning the Ural into in the summer.

“We set up a grill in the front and impale a whole bull there. And we’ve been doing this since we first tried to remove snow,” he says.

Silvio shows the photograph. A huge brazier, the bull was almost eaten. Well, in the meantime, the snow was almost removed - for now for fun around the hangar. But if asked, Andre and his friends will gladly come to the aid of their neighbors.

[edit] History

Underwater Ural

It has been coming since 1942, from ZIL. The plant from Moscow, due to the fact that a certain Hitler was eager to visit there, was evacuated to the small Ural town of Miass, and they decided to produce the old cars in a new place. After the war, the worn-out machines and somehow, but the workers who had taken root in the new place were not returned to Moscow, and were left in the Ural fuckers.

In the end, they got tired of riveting wooden ZIS carts, and the Cold War with the Pindos was in full swing. And in order to frighten the Yankees, and the rest of the world at the same time, in 1961 the plant began producing the Ural-375 car. It was he who was destined to become one of the main cargo buckets of the Soviet Army, ready to reach any Euro-American Zazhopinsk.

Well, take part in the delivery of timber and other shit from domestic sources.

The main difference between the Ural and ZIL is weight and size. ZIL-131 is a vehicle with a total weight of 10-12 tons, the Ural - 13, respectively, and instead of a platoon of soldiers or a light radio station in a kung (to be precise, the carrying capacity is 3.5 tons, for paved roads 5 were allowed) there Equipment for 5-7 tons was quite successfully stuffed. The next largest one was KRAZ.

In the nineties, gasoline Ural from the strategic reserves of the homeland cost pennies. This is how it earned the stable title of “death of the cooperator”, due to particularly outstanding indicators of gasoline consumption (norm: 78 liters).

AI-93 at 100 km), which the army did not care about at all in the 60s, but in the 90s you could go broke on it without leaving the first gas station.

The ZIL-375YA7 engine, which, by the way, was also installed in the epic lunar rover, is to blame for everything.

By the way, on gasoline the AI-93 ran almost like a diesel one. In the early 90s, due to the global crisis in the army, it was actively used on the A-76, which, by the way, was also in short supply (in some units it is still used, mainly as a fuel tanker).

To get out of the park to the training site, they disconnected the tube from the gas pump and lowered it into a five-liter canister, because pouring 5 liters into a 300-liter tank is a waste of time. After starting, the canister was instantly half empty, the remainder was enough to leave the park.

Fuel consumption on the A-76 is simply monstrous - a liter per kilometer, and this is with an absolutely serviceable engine.

Also, it was experimentally found that if you attach the Ural-375 with a rigid coupling to a KAMAZ-4310 or Ural-4320, then amazing savings in AI-93 gasoline are achieved, which more than covered the slightly increasing diesel fuel consumption of the tractor.

Just don’t forget to put the transfer case lever in the neutral position, because the Ural gearbox will burn out in 100 km.

By the way, the Ural-375 gearbox is more than completely unified with the LAZ bus gearbox, only with a “mirror” arrangement of the gear shift mechanism.

Diesel URAL-4320 in 1977-93 were equipped with Kamaz-740 engines, but in 1993 the Kamaz engine plant completely burned down. Because of this, URALs began to be produced with YaMZ-236 and YaMZ-238 engines. You can immediately understand which URAL with which engine. URALs with YaMZ-236 and YaMZ-238 have a “barrel” air filter on the right wing.

Also, URALs with YaMZ-238 engines initially had a slightly longer muzzle. URALs with Kamaz-740 engines had a shorter hood and no air filter on the right wing; there was only an air intake “mushroom” on the side of the hood.

To be fair, it is worth noting that although the KAMAZ-740 engine was the “base” for KAMAZ and Ural, their equipment differed so much that moving it from one type of vehicle to another was quite a big problem. By and large, only the block with heads and the starter are identical.

It is written here that URALs with YaMZ engines are not powerful enough, unlike KAMAZ ones. Now URALs continue to be produced with YaMZ engines. ChSKH, the first Ural-4320, as well as the first KamAZ-4310, were intended for export to Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq and, who would have thought, to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

So, if all-wheel drive KamAZ trucks were familiar to the anonymous civilian somewhere since 1986, then the Ural, until 1992, was associated with the “Glutton” 375.

A heretical modification of the army Ural-375, an attempt to adapt it for civilian needs and ordinary roads - the now little-known Ural-377.

The “three seven seven” differs from its older brother 375 in that it does not have a driven front axle and, accordingly, has less cross-country ability, but it can officially carry as many as seven tons.

It also does not have an air intake pipe on board the hood, because it is not intended for fording, does not have shielded electrical wiring and a centralized tire inflation system. In general, it’s like the Ural, but castrated.

Currently, the chance of meeting such a car alive, and even on the move, is close to zero - not so many of them were built in Soviet times in comparison with the usual 375s. There were also two modifications - 377N with wide-profile tires and a modified drive axle ratio, and Ural-377M - long wheelbase. The chances of meeting a truck of the second modification are even less than the usual “three seven seven”.

Less known than the brutal army “Ural” is the usual two-axle workhorse “UralZiS-355M”, also known as the “Ural-355M” since 1961 - outwardly similar to the well-known “GAZ-51”, but larger in size and carrying capacity in three and a half tons.

It was an updated modification of the good old ZiS-5 with a new all-metal cabin, a more powerful engine, power steering and hydraulic brakes. The truck was mainly distributed in the Urals, Siberia and Kazakhstan, everywhere having the nicknames “Zakhar” and “Emka”. ICHSH, no one ever called it “Ural”! Nowadays it is even more rare than even the heretical 377.

Everyone who saw the domestic film “Gentlemen of Fortune” also saw this very “Emka”: it was on its chassis that the same cement tanker in the tank of which the heroes of the film escaped was located.

[edit] Significance™

The Ural, along with the UAZ, is one of the symbols of the Soviet Army for Pendos and other Europeans, eastern and western, because it was very actively installed on it with a mobile exterminatus aka MLRS Grad.

And don’t give a fuck that the 375th and later model 4320 differ from each other no more or less, but in engines, the appearance remains almost the same (on the 4320 they installed a new radiator grille with thicker bars).

For insiders of the ex-Soviet countries, the symbolism is a little different: if KamAZ is the personification of the diesel stench and Cuban slowness, then the Ural is, as a rule, a brutal timber carrier.

Unlike KamAZ, the Ural is considered more passable and generally more oriented towards shit - both the leading edge and the front, and KamAZ, even all-wheel drive, is considered to be on roads, at least country roads.

It has also been experimentally established that when a mine explodes, the crew of a cabover vehicle (KAMAZ, shishiga) inevitably gets fucked, and the driver of the Urals (where the cabin is located behind the front axle, and not above it) just gets his balls torn off.

On the other hand, KAMAZ has a much more friendly interface in the form of switches for the pneumatic drives for engaging the differential lock and downshift (unlike the two very tight transfer case control levers in the Urals, which are also located... at the feet of the right passenger), much more comfortable seats, excellent review and other goodies in the form of electric wipers and glass washer (unlike the pneumatic wipers of the Urals, which could suddenly work in the most inadequate way or, if handled carelessly with the control valve, destroy the fastenings of the leashes). The differences in the brake system deserve special attention: KAMAZ has a very reliable pneumatic system with energy accumulators that allow the vehicle to be braked even if air is lost from the system, while Ural has a very complex hydraulic system with two pneumatic boosters with all the problems that arise, literally. And KAMAZ also had a device in its brake system called “alcoholic” (alcohol-based anti-freeze), which had a monthly requirement of 200 ml of ethyl alcohol, which was never the case in the Urals... When meeting the Ural on a narrow path, oncoming traffic would splash dust (and if you have an Oka, it will be blown away by the air flow!), and a trip to catch a passing one will vividly remind you of footage from the movie “Final Destination 2”. Due to its severity, the truck is actively used by tourists, geologists, polar explorers and other inhabitants of the dense Zazhopye, where the only people from civilization are themselves.

I want to share the story of my first long trip on a Soviet motorcycle in 2020, which became an unforgettable adventure for me.

Before this, there was a long process of overhauling the Ural, including rebuilding the engine, painting the frame and all the cladding, but that’s another story, and I won’t go into it. After running in the engine, not without problems, I decided to go on a motorcycle to the festival, which took place at the Otrada estate in the Tarussky district of the Kaluga region. The distance from home to the place is almost 600 km, and this seemed to me a very big and serious test. My old friend Oleg agreed to accompany me on this adventure, who really wanted to listen to Cockroaches and Mongol Shuudan live at the festival. We left Belgorod on the night from Thursday to Friday and drove merrily along the M-2 highway to the sound of the wind and the pleasant sound of a freshly rebuilt boxer engine. Before Kursk, a traffic police patrol caught up with us, whose “chandelier” I did not immediately notice in the mirrors, because they pressed close, and I only saw the headlights in the mirrors. The traffic cops were so surprised by our adventure that they didn’t even check the documents properly) After Kursk, it started to rain heavily, and markings had not yet been applied to the fresh asphalt, so it became very difficult to navigate the road. I also didn’t want to stop and wait out the rain, because on a cool night the chance of getting there without overheating was much higher. I was very afraid of this - during the break-in stage, my engine seized a couple of times due to overheating. An additional difficulty was that the flow of water from under the wheels of the overtaken trucks completely flooded the spark plug cap of the right cylinder, after which the engine began to malfunction, and the truck had to overtake us again. I think the truckers swore a lot at these moments. Before leaving, I slept a little during the day after the night shift, but Oleg found the night vigils a burden. We met the dawn in the Tula region, where the M-2 highway turns into a highway, and then the rain approximately stopped. At one of the stops for minor needs, we were greatly impressed by a graceful deer, which cheerfully galloped across a wide road, already busy in the morning, 10 meters from us. With dawn, my friend stopped fighting sleep, but the iron horse began to feel worse as the air temperature rose. I should have reduced the cruising speed from 100-105 to 90 km/h, but I wanted to quickly drive the remaining 80 kilometers to the place, pitch a tent and relax at the base. This desire ultimately played a cruel joke. A little before reaching the turn to Serpukhov, the engine suddenly jammed up the hill... We've arrived! During the run-in, the seizures were less significant, and after some time the cooled engine could continue to work, but not this time. There is nothing to do, we decide to drive to the place on one cylinder. When we hobbled to Serpukhov, clouds of thick bluish smoke poured out from under the valve cover gasket of the dead left cylinder. Drivers of cars stopped nearby at a traffic light started filming this show on their phones) Fun! (but not for us) We left the motorcycle somewhere in the city center, and we went by public transport to a motorcycle parts store, bought gaskets for the valve covers so that oil would not leak out of it. By this time, our mutual friend Artem drove up to Serpukhov on a Yamaha XT660X, who was also heading to the festival, but left later than us, so as not to wait for the lagging Ural on the track later. Oleg moved to Artem, and I slowly, with frequent stops (and it was already pretty hot outside), drove on one cylinder to the place. The traffic cop who stopped me before entering the base, and then the guy who accepted the entry fee, widened their eyes when they saw that the candle was not screwed into the cylinder, and my left shoe was all covered in oil. “You are entitled to a prize for the will to win,” I heard from the organizers upon entry. Sorry it was a joke)

I have been to several festivals before, but this one is still the brightest and most interesting for me. Our company was joined by Alexey and his wife Yulia, who also came from Belgorod on the Intruder, and two girls Artem knew from Lipetsk.

Of course, it was not possible to completely relax at the festival; my head was busy with thoughts about repairs. When I removed the cylinder in the morning, I discovered a melted piston. I've seen burnt ones before, but I haven't seen melted ones.

The complexity of the situation was that the piston was bored to fit VAZ pistons for 92 gasoline, and it was not possible to simply change the piston - it was modified by a turner before installation. It was necessary to change the entire piston, or at least the left cylinder assembly with piston and pin. In the morning, Artem and I drove to Serpukhov to buy the necessary spare parts for repairs, but the piston parts were Chinese, and at some astronomical price (I don’t remember now, but my financial situation at that time could not allow such expenses). Local motorcyclists also failed to find a used one. On Sunday morning I already had to be at work. I didn’t want to leave the motorcycle, in which I had invested a lot of effort, money and mental energy, so I decided to go home on Saturday morning on one live cylinder, relying on my favorite chance. The girls drew me a sign on a piece of cardboard asking for help, which was attached over the license plate. In response to my doubts about this decision, the guys replied that in your position no one would pay attention to it.

Yesterday's heat gave way to cloudy weather with occasional rain. This gave me a little hope that the remaining living cylinder would not die and would be able to take me home. At first everything went quite well, but after leaving the M-2 the engine increasingly began to lose traction and require stops to cool down. After about 70 kilometers I was stopped at a traffic police checkpoint. The inspector first asked why I stopped a kilometer in front of the checkpoint, thought that I was looking for a detour (and I was just letting the engine cool down), then announced that he was forced to issue me a fine for driving with the headlights off, after which he went to fill out my documents protocol, and at that time, without making unnecessary movements, I tore off the cardboard from the license plate with the inscription “Broken”))) It’s good that he didn’t notice it, apparently he was surprised by the state of my transport. Having received my documents and a decree for 500 rubles back, I asked the inspector to help me, namely to stop a truck with Belgorod or Kursk license plates so that my horse could be taken closer to home. Before this, I tried many times to brake the truck myself while the engine was cooling down, but I hardly saw any fellow countrymen on the trucks, and even they didn’t want to stop. And then, as if by magic, a couple of minutes later a Hyundai truck with a thermal booth appeared, returning empty from Moscow to Belgorod - bingo! The driver agreed to take my horse on board for some monetary reward. There were three of us loading - me, the driver and the traffic cop) Due to the lack of any parts in the thermal booth to which the Ural could be attached, I climbed inside, laid out a rug for myself and rested my feet on the motorcycle, placed on the side stand, because it was big there is a risk of breaking it on bumps and when making right turns. Delighted with my salvation, I was driving in a dark iron booth in a great mood until I decided to plug my phone charger into the cigarette lighter on the steering wheel. At that moment, the truck bounced violently on a bump, and the motorcycle collapsed - the step broke. Because of the roar, the driver stopped to check if everything was okay. After that, I was already riding a horse, holding it with my feet in a puddle of oil spilled under my feet. I will say, it was another rodeo that lasted about 8 hours - the truck was moving slowly. In such a situation, time moved even slower. You think to yourself that half an hour has definitely passed, you check - 5 minutes! Those were very long hours. I have never received such a load on my legs in any training or competition, either before or after that night))) holding a heavy motorcycle, every now and then trying to fall on its side when turning the truck, while resting on the floor slippery from oil, was very difficult. At the same time, I could not put the motorcycle on its side - the driver almost got hit when he saw a little oil spilled on the floor of the booth. I got to the house from the turn off the highway in tow, a friend came to the rescue and dragged me to the garage. Yes, the first mini-long-haul trip turned out to be full of mistakes and difficulties, but aren’t they the parents of experience) Now, when they ask me if I’m afraid that the motorcycle will break while traveling, I remember this story) No, I’m not afraid!

PS Added a video as an example of the operation of the Urals in recent years)))
