Operation of MAN TGS: reviews

Evgeniy, Saratov, car MAN TGS 26.440

I’ve been involved in transportation all my life, and specifically I’ve been driving MANs for 5 years now. Before that there were L2000 and not so long ago MAN TGA. Now I've switched to a second-hand MAN TGS. The car has become familiar for a long time - there are a lot of them driving around the city, especially similar to the previous model, only newer and the past mistakes have been corrected. The first flight was to Voronezh, carrying canned goods. The impressions are good, although the leaf front suspension is stiff, but it is quiet and responsive. Our cabin is L-ka, because of its size it does not shake like large cabins. Cabins sometimes shake, additional shock absorption won't hurt.

I really like the interior, it’s cozy and warm—this model has additional insulation. Lots of functionality - buttons on the steering wheel, on the doors - everything is at hand, good rubberized drawers on top for things. And also reliable and not at all capricious electronics and Tip MAtic, which can be switched to manual control. The car will not let you down in any situation! Its disadvantages are typical for MAN, and for other cars as well: it is susceptible to fuel, as a result of which the injectors often fly and the filters become clogged. The fuel system is fragile. Otherwise, the car is designed for bad roads and careless driving, that is, for the Russian Ivan. I am glad that there is a good service center all over Russia - there will be no problems with repairs. I like the car, and I’m used to the Germans, it’s solid and of high quality.

MAN TGS tractor: all about the model range

Like all updated MAN cars, this line has much in common with neighboring series. After all, it was these machines that laid the foundation for a new quality standard called Trucknology, which implies not just high performance, but also “smart” management. But if the niche of mainliners is occupied by the powerful, aggressive TGX, and the middle weight is dominated by the MAN TGM, then the TGS has a number of unique characteristics that qualitatively distinguish it from the rest.

The car is included in the class of heavy trucks: its total weight varies from 18 to 41 tons (the weight of the road train can reach 90 tons). Wheelbase sizes up to 6700 mm. It is in the wheel formulas that the main difference from the flagship lies. TGS has three all-wheel drive bases: 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8, along with intermediate and more conventional options.

Technical specifications MAN TGS

The MAN TGS design allows minor breakdowns to be easily repaired
Getting to the internal contents of the MAN TGS is quite simple - the front cover tilts up easily and by more than 45 degrees.

The fact that the car is not designed for long journeys is immediately obvious. The standard configuration offers a lightweight "L" cab with one berth. Its dimensions are designed for one driver and a maximum of short trips between nearby populated areas. However, other sizes (M, LX for this series and XL, XLX, XXL for all model series) are also available, although there is less demand for them.

The car itself is positioned as a reinforced construction worker (as well as one employed in urban road work). Moreover, the Germans emphasize that the tractor is not intended for European high-quality roads, but for countries with difficult conditions. This is evident from the fact that the models are produced without exhaust treatment systems using Ad Blue urea, which is critical to fuel quality. The engine standard on these tractors is Euro 3 and Euro 4.

In addition to the usual basic version, MAN TGS has an extended configuration. Its name is appropriate: World Wide, which emphasizes its readiness to work anywhere in the world. The tractor was presented in 2010, simultaneously at two exhibitions. The car was shown by both Comtrans in Moscow and Munich Bauma. The WW marking appeared back in 2003 on the MAN TGA car, which is no longer produced. The new TGS borrows the chassis from this model: reinforced suspension and frame, combining a successful design with new developments from MAN.

MAN TGS: inside and outside

The cabin is identical in length to the TGC (2280 mm), but this model is 200 mm narrower. Among the innovations is a plastic bumper with improved LED lighting. The radiator grille is additionally protected by a mesh from gravel and insects. There are three steps and comfortable handrails leading into the cabin.

More on the topic: Pickups from International

The driver's seat and the cabin itself are equipped with air suspension, while the passenger seat has a rigid fixation. The interior is simple, elegant, but suitable for working conditions. The finishing includes plastic, fabric and metal decorative elements. There are many functional buttons and adjustments on the steering wheel, dashboard and window sides. There are also convenient stands for coffee, phones and drawers for personal items.

The dimensions of the MAN TGS are compact, so the dimensions of the “sleeping bag” are not too luxurious: 2050 x 750 mm. Under the shelf there is a box for working tools. A good idea - it can be accessed from outside the cabin. The cabin insulates noise well and, compared to other MANs, has improved aerodynamic parameters, which means it saves fuel.

MAN TGS is already the flagship of TGC, but the developers managed to make the interior free and functional
The MAN TGS tractor does not look cramped or boring inside: an abundance of buttons, a convenient location of the gearbox levers and parking brake, spaciousness and excellent visibility make the tractor attractive in the eyes of drivers.

Operating capacities of MAN TGS

The TGS model range received two standard engines. One of the engines is a diesel D2066 of medium power, from 350 to 440 horsepower. The maximum torque on this engine is 2100 Nm at 1000-1400 rpm. The series is not limited to this: for more complex tasks there is a more powerful unit.

This is also an engine from MAN - D2676 with a displacement of 12.4 liters. Its capabilities are equal to 530 hp, while it produces maximum power already at 1900 rpm. Torque - no less than 2500 Nm. These engines have many fans.

It was the TGS with such an engine that was accepted into the special support team at such rallies as the Dakar, Transcontinental, and Silk Way. For these tasks, the engine was slightly boosted, up to 550 hp. The design of the car, with minor modifications, even allowed it to take part in the race as a “combat” unit at the “Silk Road 2009” competition. This indicates a certain safety margin for MAN TGS.

All declared engines are combined with gearboxes from the German manufacturer ZF, which is familiar to truck drivers firsthand. On TGS series models there are three options to choose from. The automatic transmission with TipMatic electronic control has twelve steps, the manual transmission has all 16 with a separator. For vehicles used in the public utilities sector, a six-speed gearbox with manual shifting is provided.

MAN TGS tractor: chassis

The truck has a lot of interesting things in its chassis. First of all, a new feature of all modern MANs is the so-called hypoid axles. In addition to the smooth running and quietness of the vehicle, the use of this type of axle allows you to reduce fuel consumption. The tractor also has a hydraulic drive, which improves traction and maneuverability both on and off the road.

MAN TGS is one of the few cars that were lucky enough to participate in rally races not only as a support car, but also as a direct participant in the competition.

The suspension is offered in several types, because the car is used in quite different conditions. For construction work, a two-axle trolley design with fully air suspension is used. In other cases, a leaf spring type with parabolic springs is possible. The air suspension is fully electronically controlled, which allows you to install additional equipment on the frame with high precision.

Problems when paying with bank cards

Sometimes difficulties may arise when paying with Visa/MasterCard bank cards. The most common of them:

  1. There is a restriction on the card for paying for online purchases
  2. A plastic card is not intended for making payments online.
  3. The plastic card is not activated for making payments online.
  4. There are not enough funds on the plastic card.

In order to solve these problems, you need to call or write to the technical support of the bank where you are served. Bank specialists will help you resolve them and make payments.

That's basically it. The entire process of paying for a book in PDF format on car repair on our website takes 1-2 minutes.

Bottom line

Trucks of this brand are focused on transporting goods over long distances. They are actively used for urban and interregional transportation. The truck line has developed versions equipped for various purposes. All vehicles are distinguished by good load capacity, reliability and the most comfortable design of the workplace.

History of the German car brand MAN

, however, like other famous brands, DAF, Mersedes, goes back far into the last century.

The lack of need for cars at that time was reflected in the specifics of the factories. The MAN company is no exception, having begun its existence with the production of steam boilers, bridge trusses, turbines, trams, hydraulic pumps and railway cars. The abbreviation MAN comes from the merger of two companies engaged in the production of equipment intended for construction and mechanical engineering company Ludwig Sander. This happened in 1858, after which the company received its short name “Engineering Factory Augsburg-Nuremberg”, which was shortened to the already familiar abbreviation MAN.

Engineer Rudolf Diesel had a huge influence on the further development of MAN, receiving a patent for a four-stroke internal combustion engine in 1893. Rudolf Diesel's idea was continued by Anton von Rippel. And after meeting Adolf Saurer, the MAN company began producing 5-ton MAN-Saurer trucks in the town of Lindau. The truck was equipped with a 4-cylinder 45-horsepower gasoline power unit, which worked in combination with a 4-speed gearbox and chain drive.

In 1916, production moved to Nuremberg.

In 1919, production of the “2Zc” and “3Zc” models began, with a load capacity of 2.5 and 3.5 tons.

In 1925, MAN released the world's first series of diesel vehicles with a payload capacity of 3.5-5 tons.

In 1926, the 3-axle, 6-ton diesel truck “S1H6” appeared. This car was equipped with a 6-cylinder engine, which was developed by Franz Lang and Wilhelm Rihm.

In 1927, a new family of engines with vertical injector Robert Bosch was invented. They were installed on MAN cars

models “KVB” and “S1H6” with a lifting capacity of 5-8.5 tons.

The sensation of 1931 was the launch of a MAN car with a 150 hp engine.

From 1933 to 1938 The company's production volume increases from 323 to 2,568 cars per year. 25% of them were exported.

During the Great Patriotic War, the plant was severely destroyed. And it began to exist again only on May 8, 1945. Already in the fall, assembly of the pre-war MAN “L4500” series began there.

In 1951, MAN cars began to be equipped with a turbocharged diesel power unit developed by Siegfried Meurer. Thanks to this, a new family of 6- and 8-cylinder “M-engines” and a new range of MAN trucks appeared.

In 1963, the company released the “10.212” series, with a 6-cylinder engine producing 212 hp. In the same year the company became.

By 1967, cooperation with the SAVIEM company made it possible to expand the range of cars produced to 22 models.

In 1970, as a result of cooperation with the Daimler-Benz concern, the “D2858” V8 engine with a power of 304 hp appeared. designed for long-haul tractors.

In 1970, OAF joined the company, after which the production of special multi-axle chassis, fire trucks and heavy dump trucks began in Vienna.

After purchase in 1971, a lion figurine appears on the radiator trim along with “MAN”. But that’s not all, MAN has also received new developments in the field of heavy trucks and diesel engines.

In 1978, a MAN car

wins the Truck of the Year title. This goes back to 1980, 1987 and 1995, demonstrating the truck's unrivaled quality and stylish appearance.

Cooperation with Volkswagen leads to the production of middle-class trucks. This takes place in 1979.

In 1980, the MAN "19.321FLT", which won the "Truck of the Year" title, gave rise to the new 6-cylinder engines of the "D25" series, which became the main power unit for MAN.

In the 90s, MAN was developing new models. The family of trucks “L2000”, “M2000”, “F2000” is born. These trucks are equipped with electronic devices designed to regulate engine operation, driver seat position, suspension, traction control, etc.

In 2000, the family of vehicles was supplemented by the MAN “TG-A”, which meets Euro-3 standards. The car is equipped with a 12-13 liter diesel engine with a power of 310-510 hp, manual and automatic transmission. Once again, a MAN vehicle takes home the title of Truck of the Year 2001. The interior decoration uses either plastic or wood and leather. Compared to the F2000, interior cabin space has increased by another 9%. Particular attention is paid to cabin safety.

In 2007, a MAN truck took first place in the Dakar Rally.

The TV show “CREW” consisting of Alexey Mochanov and Orest Shupenyuk conducted a test drive of the MAN TGA 18.480 4X2 BLS, and this is what happened.

The MAN company is a German corporation that operates in the field of mechanical engineering. This company produces trucks and buses, as well as various types of engines.

During the last reporting period, the corporation's profit amounted to 20 billion euros, and annual growth exceeds 10%.

Since 2013, the company began to actively develop its production and presented to customers the following models of heavy equipment:

  • TGX (specialized tractors with a labor force of 10 to 75 tons, designed to be operated by one person) and TGS (single tractors with a labor force of 6 to 25 tons), which have been introduced since 2008;
  • TGM - medium-tonnage trucks, which have a limit of 25 tons;
  • TGL is a small-tonnage truck with a labor force of up to 7 tons, used in urban areas.

Many MAN models have been awarded the “Best Heavy Equipment” and “Best Truck” awards.

The MAN company positions itself as a professional who constantly monitors the market for these products and produces equipment that fully meets all international standards.
