Characteristics of the t 74 tractor

The T-74 tracked tractor appeared as a result of the modernization of models 54 and 75, carried out at the Kharkov plant. The equipment belonged to the class of agricultural machines with a traction capacity of 3 tons, production continued until the end of autumn 1983. In total, more than 880 thousand copies of the tractor were collected. There are similar equipment assembled by the ATZ plant (Altai).

Technical characteristics of T 74

  • Built-in SMD-14A engine, power 75 hp.
  • When the unit moves, a pressure of 420 grams per cm2 is applied to the ground surface.
  • Total weight 5,910 kg.
  • The unit moves at a speed of 4.5 to 11.6 km per hour.
  • The volumetric capacity of the tank is 218 liters of fuel when fully charged.
  • Dimensions 2,325 x 1,845 x 4,225 mm.
  • Ground clearance 280 mm.
  • The track between the wheels is 1,435 mm.

Engine SMD 14A

It runs on diesel fuel and has a vortex combustion chamber. The output speed is 1,830 cycles per minute. There are four working cylinders, installed in one row. It is equipped with a cyclone air purifier, to which is connected a suction tube built into the exhaust gas flow outlet pipe. Discharged dust is formed in the suction pipe, which settles in the hopper of the air cleaner. The dust cloud combines with the exhaust gases, after which it leaves the gas system of the KhTZ equipment. An oil radiator mechanism operates in the lubrication system. It can be turned off in winter by resetting the switch. The SMD 14A starts up during frosts using a pre-heater. The mounting location is the surface of the suction-type manifold. The PD-10M-2 starting device is manufactured with a single-stage gearbox. The work process is carried out using gasoline.

In the photo, the T 74 looks like a real rarity:

Cabin HTZ 74

The enclosed cabin is mounted on the rear surface of the frame. There is a seat for two workers inside, the back of the seat is soft to the touch. The cabin is heated through an air duct from a running engine. The heated air flow moves along the casing, and the internal regulator of the warm air flow is a damper. In summer, the damper is closed to stop the flow of warm air. A manual wiper is provided to clean the right windshield.

Fuel type and consumption

The engine runs by burning diesel fuel. The calculation of fuel combustion is calculated using the formula: 1 horsepower consumes 195 grams of fuel per working hour. The total consumption rate is 14.6 liters per hour of operation.

Features of the engine structure

The T-74 tractor has a diesel engine. Brand SMD-14A is a four-cylinder engine with an upper combustion chamber. This type of engine has 75 horses and a speed of 1830 revolutions in just one minute. In addition, the engine is equipped with a cyclone air cleaner. This method of air purification makes it possible to remove waste directly into the exhaust pipe. All unnecessary elements that may accumulate in the engine are also discharged into the exhaust port using a suction tube.

The lubrication system contains an oil cooler. This fairly simple solution allows you to disconnect it from the general system during the cold season.

In this situation, the engine is started through a special installation that heats the system. This operating system makes it possible to start the engine even in severe frosts. The launcher itself is a gasoline unit, model PD-M-2, equipped with a two-level gearbox.

Device T 74

When creating the DT 74, the tractor units T-75 and DT-54 were taken as a basis. The frame of the unit is channel-type, longitudinal channels are connected using a beam at the front, an axle connects them at the rear. Transverse fastening beams connect the channels in the center of the frame. A motor is installed in front of the frame, and a cabin is installed at the rear. The clutch system is double-disc. The gearbox is made with mechanical shifting and has 6 gear stages. This box is controlled by two levers:

When a gear is turned off, first turn it on, and then turn on the group of gears.

Tractor frame T 74

Tractor T-74: technical characteristics

• The engine in the tractor is SMD-14A. • Power (kW) is 75 horsepower. • Gearbox – mechanical. • Onboard brakes. • Tractor hydraulic equipment: hydraulic cylinder (rear linkage), hydraulic pump, distributors. • Electrical equipment: generator and headlights.

The T-74 tractor was produced from April 1962 to November 1983. And during this period, 880,792 units were produced. The next model is the T-150.

The T-74 tractor was similar in appearance and design to units of the DT-54 and T-75 brands. In this case, the frame is a channel frame on which, as mentioned above, the engine is located in front and the cabin in the back. The power transmission includes: clutch, driveshaft, gearbox, turning mechanism, final speeds.

Equipment

The T 74 tractor comes with a set of working tools:

  • Power level take-off shaft;
  • Three-spool distribution element;
  • Separate-unit hydraulic system;
  • Rear hinged mechanism.

The following products are used in the electrical equipment of DT 74: control relay; lamp illuminating the cabin; 180 Volt generator; engine starter; accumulator battery; lighting lamps; sound signal mechanism.

Areas of use of this technology

Thanks to different assemblies and configurations, this tractor was oriented in many directions and could be used in different fields of activity. His main field of activity was focused on agriculture. Thanks to the tracks, he could move on the worst roads and off-road. In addition, the weight that he could carry made him an indispensable assistant on the field.

The T-74 tractor also coped well with transportation work. Its carrying capacity is about two tons. T tractors also served well in the public utilities sector, helping to cope with natural disasters, or simply during ordinary life.

Used for work in construction and industrial processes. For cargo transportation and industrial processes.

Cost and competition

The model has not been produced since 1983, and there are no new tractors for sale. A working HTZ 74 can be bought for 35,000 - 65,000 rubles. The Volgograd enterprise produces analogues of the Kharkov T 74 tractors. The analogue is called VT-150, which is made with a similar appearance. The class of equipment and their technical parameters are approximately at the same level. Feedback from people proves that the T 74 is a reliable tracked mechanism with a low cost.

With regular replacement of spare parts and consumables, the unit will serve you for many years, performing its job under any circumstances.

Tractor features

The T-74 tractor, as already mentioned, belongs to the third traction class. This indicates the high traction power of this device. It can be up to three thousand kilograms, so it is very often used to transport goods to hard-to-reach places. The weight that he can lift is slightly less, and it is two thousand kilograms.

Such a high load capacity allows it to be quite useful in construction and agriculture. Can be used as a tractor for other equipment.

The structure of the tractor itself is not very different from its analogues. The engine is located in the front of the machine, as well as the driveshaft. But, despite the standard structure, it differs from its analogues.

Chassis features

The tractor chassis deserves special attention, the bulk of which consists of two parallel channels. The entire weight of the device is distributed over three main points. The front part rests on a solid metal beam, the middle is supported by steel cross members and the rear part is a drive axle. This gradation allows the T 74 tractor to be maneuverable and at the same time feel good off-road.

Tracks are attached to the main frame, thus the weight of the tractor is distributed over the entire length. Among analogues and subsequent generations, there is a DT 74 tractor with similar characteristics, although it is more oriented towards the T75.

This tractor is a good workhorse that will serve for a long time without any special vagaries.

Crawler tractor T-74 technical characteristics

T-74 is a caterpillar tractor developed in the USSR. The car belongs to the third traction class. The equipment was produced by engineers of the Kharkov Tractor Plant, who have extensive experience in creating equipment of this class. The tractor received the layout from the once popular T-75 and DT-54 models, which received modernized components.

The first batch of T-74s rolled off the assembly line of the Kharkov plant in April 1962. Production of the T-74 was discontinued only in 1983. The machine was considered very popular and in demand in urban and agricultural sectors, utilities and many other industries, and also had support for various attachment options.

Thus, over 21 years, over 880 thousand copies of the T-74 were produced.

Description and purpose

The main area of application of the T-74 tractor is agricultural work, including harvesting using trailed, semi-mounted and mounted machines. The tractor is designed for continuous tillage, sowing and harvesting, road installation and construction tasks, towing massive loads, as well as heavy concrete structures. The tractor is capable of performing all these tasks in hard-to-reach conditions - where no passenger SUV can pass.

High performance and good maintainability made the machine universal and highly in demand throughout the USSR. The tractor has proven itself well in the public sector of the economy, and after 1991, private organizations began to actively purchase them, which successfully made money by renting this type of equipment.

The T-74 is a multifunctional tractor, the potential of which could also be used in search and rescue operations - for example, when clearing away rubble and destruction of urban infrastructure.

Reviews of T-74 HTZ

During many years of operation, significant design and production defects were discovered. First of all, these are problems starting the main engine at low temperatures.

The T 74 tractor has had a turbine for 2 years. The pistons were installed from SMD 17.18 and the equipment was adjusted for the SMD 17 engine. Nothing else was changed in the engine. With a turbine, heaven and earth. The box did not break, but we use the tractor to work with a PTO. And the weak point when working with a turbine is the radiator - its 3-row one does not have time to cool.

The T-74 is perfect for performing classic agricultural work: harvesting with trailed, semi-mounted and mounted machines and implements at high speeds or continuous tillage. The tractor is also actively used in road, construction and reclamation work, in various operations in agriculture and when transporting massive loads in difficult conditions and on bad roads.
