Gear Lubricant for Brushcutter

How to lubricate a gearbox with a brush

Purchase of any equipment. This is a kind of lottery, but a lot depends on the gardener. In caring hands, Chinese samples will last a long time and will not let their owners down at the most inopportune moment. And if you forget to lubricate the gearbox on time, do not clean the filters, and do not use cheap, low-quality gasoline, then garden equipment from the most famous brands will become a headache.

Gear lubrication. One of the most important maintenance elements of a gas trimmer, which must be performed directly by the user.

Time and procedure for preventing transmission

I recommend immediately after purchase that you carry out maintenance on a new gas trimmer by adding oil to the gearbox. Despite the high cost of gardening equipment, some manufacturers save money and use oil only at least during a breakdown.

How often to clean the gearbox

Often a routine transmission oil check is performed once a year at the beginning or end of the season. If you do not use a gas trimmer in professional quantities, this is enough.

For large mowing volumes, it is necessary to lubricate the gearbox with a brush every 20-50 hours of operation. If the operating conditions of garden equipment are difficult, for example, a large field is immediately mowed and the brush cutter does not have time to cool down, or cheap oils are used, the oil should be checked and added every 20 hours. Operations.

Indirect evidence that the gearbox needs to be lubricated may be overheating or increased noise of the unit.

Also, when doing a complete oil change, disassembling and washing the unit, I recommend buying a gasoline trimmer.

Range of lubricants for garden equipment

According to the instructions, a special transmission fluid must be used to lubricate the bevel gear. As a rule, manufacturers of garden equipment produce and recommend their brand chemicals as the most suitable for their devices.

At the same time, in order to reduce the cost of garden equipment and increase the attractiveness of the brand of auto chemicals, lubricants for garden equipment are usually produced as multifunctional ones. It is designed not only to lubricate the gearbox of gasoline trimmers, but also to treat hoses, gears and gearboxes of any garden equipment and mechanical devices operating under heavy loads.

This lubricant is sold in tubes that are easy to use and store.

Even if a special gear lubricant has been almost completely developed during operation, the additives still create an effective lubricating protective film on the surface of the gears.

It should be noted that many mower owners in the former CIS countries use conventional lithium-24 or lithium-based oil to lubricate the gearbox. It is convenient to fill the gearbox with a 5 cubic meter medical syringe.

The undoubted advantage of using Litol and lithium-based lubricants for refueling a brush cutter is a cheaper operation. But there are nuances that make spears break on gardening forums on the Internet. I think what you can lubricate with lithium based oil and what you can't, read the article "Litol as a Gearbox Lubricant".

How to lubricate a gearbox with a brush, gas trimmer

17 side bolts on gas trimmer gearbox

For safety reasons, to avoid accidental starting, all braid maintenance work must be performed with the electrical cover/plug removed from the spark plug. Do not turn the trimmer over to avoid gas leakage.

Unscrew the side screw on the gears. Depending on the garden tool manufacturer, you may be able to use a socket head bolt instead of a hex head bolt, usually up to 17. The threads are normal, unscrew them counterclockwise. Be careful not to lose the sealing washer.

Add specialized lubricant

If no fat is visible on the inner end of the screw, add 3-4 grams. Turn the gear by hand, reversing the direction of rotation to distribute the grease throughout the gears.

Then replace the screw, tightening it securely.

Not the best lubrication option. Not much different from low-budget “graphite”.

The key to long-term operation of any mechanism is properly selected and high-quality oil. There are many similar products on the market, and price is not always an indicator of quality.

It is more difficult to choose narrow oil because it is less in demand, and sellers do not like to stock them with warehouses.

After purchasing the trimmer, 3-speed gear oil was purchased.

3-lube gearbox

Package 100 gr. About Bosch there were 250 rubles. It is expensive for this level of oil, but there was no need to buy a trimmer from a suitable manufacturer. I had to go to the construction market and with great effort find at least some oil for the trimmer gearbox.

Lubrication is produced in the Moscow region.

This company is actually quite good for car care products, but I wouldn't buy it for equipment lubrication.

Due to the fact that the trimmer practically does not lubricate, I decided to take a risk.

By the way, this oil can be used for toothed drills, that is, it can work at both high and low speeds.

The price is still too high. For 200-250 rubles you can buy high-quality oil from a well-known manufacturer.

Let's go to the list and use.

Removing the protective cap, we see a cone-shaped trunk.

Opening the tube (will have to be cut) This has a negative impact on the brand's budget, since without additional tools we will not be able to open this tube. On more expensive models, the tube opens from the back of the cover.

By the way, each trimmer brand is focused on its own brands of oils and lubricants. This is done specifically to sell their products. In fact, you can use any brand of lubricant. The main thing is that they meet the tolerances.

He was not lazy and found old oil from a well-known brand. Here, in my opinion, this is the best option for the mechanism. In other words, even the advantage of one oil over another is visually visible.

In the case of 3Ton, something inside turned out to be something very similar to CV joint oil interspersed with graphite. Even the smell of each other. Of course, I didn't do chemo. Analysis, but with 98% probability I can say that there is regular speed corner joint oil inside the pipe.

Compared to conventional lubricant

As a result, we guarantee that we overpay even more, because CV joints usually cost pennies.

The grease is easy to pump due to the conical shape of the nozzle.

The lubrication procedure is simple. Pour in oil, turn the shaft and add it. If the transmission is removed, oil may leak into the rear. This is actually good, so we push the oxygen plug out of the gearbox.

Gearbox Packing Also, the lubricator shaft is filled with this lubricant. Water is optimal for this purpose.

Initially, 12 acres of land were cleared. The oil in the gearbox did not leak and remained almost at the same level. The only gearbox is noisy. Here I cannot say for sure whether this is roofing felt made from low-quality lubricants, deficiencies in the production of roofing felt (new braid).

By and large, this is ordinary “graphite”, and there is no point in overpaying for it.

I'll use it as a temporary option and replace it with a more decent model soon.

If this oil was priced at 80 rubles, then I could recommend it, but for 250 it makes no sense to buy ordinary graphite oil. That's why 3ton is good as a car care product. When it comes to lubricants and oils, I prefer something else.

How to Lubricate the Gearbox of a Brushcutter

Responsible maintenance. key to long tool life. One of the requirements for the operation of a brush cutter is timely lubrication of the gearbox, as well as cleaning of the filters. Every user of such a unit knows what compound to lubricate the gearbox. First clean in several steps, then remove the element from the housing. It is cleaned with gasoline and dried. The place for the filter is carefully prepared, clearing it of dust and old oil. The main signal for brush gear lubrication is extraneous noise and rapid heating of the equipment. This means you need to lubricate the part as soon as possible. Lubrication intervals are indicated in the instructions for the brush. According to experts, the transmission should be serviced every 15 hours.

Checking the correct oil application on the angle grinder

The last step when servicing angle grinders. Checking the correct application and distribution of oil inside the gearbox. To do this, after assembling the gearbox, turn on the power tool without load for a few minutes, making sure that there are no extraneous sounds, smells or other things. If they occur, immediately unplug the coffee grinder. The gearbox heating is also checked. The oil should distribute heat evenly and the gearbox temperature should not be too high.

After a short operation, unscrew the 4 screws, then remove the gearbox cover. Visually inspect the helical gears for lubrication. If it is missing, it means too little oil was added and should be reported. If during the work it is squeezed out of the cracks, then too much of it is laid, and the excess must be removed. After making changes, they check the mill again without load.

How to lubricate a gear

Disassembled gearbox with brush

Almost every gearbox is equipped with a small technological hole, which is clamped with a special bolt during operation. After thoroughly cleaning the unit from grass and debris, unscrew the screw and inject 1.5–3 ml of lubricant into the gearbox cavity, depending on the brand of the tool. You can use a traditional medical syringe for easy dosing. During operation, foreign particles and objects should not get into the gearbox, as this can lead to intensive wear of the gearbox and its jamming.

Experts recommend dismantling the gearbox, washing the gears and bearings and re-lubricating the assembly at the end of the mowing season and storing the tool for a long time without use.

Lower and upper gear lubrication

There are tips that recommend lubricating at the end of the season. However, most people choose to do this at the beginning of each season. When repairing the unit, as well as during any disassembly, it is necessary to use lubricants. When the old trimmer is inserted, the gearbox must be additionally lubricated.

Modern trimmers are equipped with a gearbox that measures the angle of transmission of mechanical energy between two components: the shaft and the head. Bevel gears are considered common gears, they can easily withstand high speeds, feature smooth gear changes, as well as a high level of load-bearing capacity. The shaft, the gear that presses against the driven shaft, fits into the housing. To reduce friction, the bearings are mounted on the shaft bearings.

Make your own sander lubricant

Homemade oil for gear grinding machines consists of a base and a thinner. The base for homemade lubricants is usually a compound of molybdenum disulfide or cyathim-221. They have a second viscosity according to NLGI, so for use when reducing angle grinding base, the base must be thinned. It is best to use a simple mineral industrial oil as a thinner, such as I-20 oil. To obtain a viscosity of NLGI 0, it is necessary to mix about 70 percent base and 30 percent solvent. The resulting mixture is thoroughly mixed and prepared for application to gears and bearings of angle grinders.

Make butter

Timely maintenance of any power tool is the key to long-term and trouble-free operation. A properly functioning tool is also a guarantee of safety for the person using it. Using the above tips, anyone can choose the right angle grinder oil and change it without the help of expensive power tool service centers.

Three-dimensional gearbox design

Regardless of the manufacturer or model, a modern trimmer is equipped with a gearbox to change the angle of transmission of mechanical energy between the drive shaft and the line head. Bevel gears are most widely used in gas braided applications because, unlike spur gears, helical gears can reach tremendous speeds, have smoother transmission and increased load-bearing capacity.

The main parts are gears

The duralumin housing (1) has a shaft (2) and an articulated gearbox (3) pressed against the driven shaft (4). To reduce friction forces during rotation, rolling bearings (5) are installed instead of shaft bearings. Any gear transmission is a heavily loaded mechanism, the duration of which, noiselessness and reliability of which depend primarily on oil. Therefore, in addition to the main components listed above, the trimmer gearbox has a special hole through which the bearings and gears can be lubricated without disassembling the unit.

Basic errors and solutions

General node failures:

  1. Jamming of shafts during operation, appearance of hammers or axial movements of shafts. The cause of the failure is wear of the rolling bearings, which must be replaced with new ones.
  2. The gearbox is separated from the tool guide rod during operation. The defect manifests itself in the wear of the seat socket or the appearance of a crack in the body. Repair consists of replacing broken parts. Temporary fastening of the assembly with clamps is allowed.
  3. When installing the gearbox on the rod, there is a gap that does not provide locking. As a temporary measure, you can compensate for the gap by wrapping insulating tape around the rod. Later, you will either have to replace the worn parts or buy a new tool.
  4. The trimmer gearbox feels increased voltage and heat during operation. Overheating of the unit occurs when there is insufficient quantity of oil or its low quality. The phenomenon also occurs during grinding of new gears.
  5. The output shaft does not rotate or the work tool stops under load. In this case, a rattle may appear. A similar defect occurs when teeth are cut or worn on gears. New items must be installed to restore functionality.

Prevention and possible gearbox malfunctions

The brush cutter requires first maintenance immediately after purchase, as the manufacturer applies a small amount of oil. If your trimmer is doing a small job, lubricate the unit at the beginning and end of the season. If the hedge trimmer works a lot, then lubricate it after 30-55 hours.

The main disadvantages include the most common options.

  • Heatwave. This indicates that the fat has run out. You need to add lubricants and run them in low mode.
  • The transmission vibrates or wobbles. This situation indicates mechanical damage.
  • There is a knock. Then the bearing fell apart and the trunk was damaged.
  • If the 3D knife is stuck, the mechanism must be completely replaced.

Trimmer gearbox lubricant: which one to choose?

Choosing a toothpaste

Currently, the market offers a wide range of lubricants for gasoline tools and consumables designed to reduce friction and overheating of friction parts. Therefore, every owner, when it comes time for maintenance, is faced with the problem of lubricating the trimmer gearbox for its long-term operation. For these purposes, special plastic pastes are used, which differ in properties and manufacturers.

Lubricant for famous brands of trimmers

Rules for choosing a lubricant

Many companies that produce garden tools, such as Stihl and Husqvarna, produce their own lubricants for their products. In this case, it is recommended to use just such products - they best reduce equipment wear. If the original lubricant is not available for the trimmer, several factors should be taken into account when choosing a composition:

  • quality of products of the brand that produces the lubricant;
  • viscosity of the composition - this parameter is affected by the torque of the shaft;
  • adhesion to the surface of the components of the assembly;
  • consumption of lubricating coating - you need to take into account the air temperature, the type and volume of work performed.

In terms of consistency, lubricants can be liquid or semi-liquid, containing various additives and additives, as well as plastic and solid. The ductile ones are the most common, while the hard ones represent their original state. The most popular compositions are:

  • graphite lubricants that reduce friction and improve gear movement;
  • lithium compounds with high anti-corrosion properties and additives that reduce metal wear;
  • universal substances containing mineral oils and additives that increase the performance properties of the gearbox.

The most common lubricants include: Litol-24, Champion EP-0, Azmol 158, as well as the production composition.

Every brand of petrol trimmers always recommends their own hedge trimmer oil.

  • Husqvarna. This Swedish manufacturer recommends using Grasa Universal fat. This material is available in blue-black tubes of 225 or 250 grams. According to the company, this gear lubricant was developed specifically for Husqvarna technology, taking into account the steel used and operating speeds.
  • Style. For Stihl FS Series petrol braids, the manufacturer recommends the use of Stihl Superlub FS, available in 225g tubes or 80g disposable containers in silver-orange.
  • Patriot. It is recommended to service Motokos gearboxes of this brand with original Arsenal lithium grease AR-417. It is specially designed for gearboxes operating at high speeds and temperatures.
  • Hutter. For the bevel gear of the instrumental models of this Huter company, you can use any of the above brands of transmission oils, as well as universal types Rezoil, CIATIM and others.
  • Champion. Champion Motorcycle Owner's Manual refers to the recommended lubricants CHAMPION Super-Lube EP-O. The material is supplied in a 250 gram jar or in a disposable Premium Champion C1104 teat.
  • Makita. This Japanese manufacturer advises its customers to use Makita branded oils, which are supplied in white tubes with a red cap of 65 ml and 80 ml.

Motokosa gear lubricant selection factors

Often, the owner of a certain brand of gas trimmer cannot buy the oil recommended by the manufacturer for any reason. In such cases, you will need to find an analogue with properties identical to the branded paste.

Therefore, when choosing paste for a brush cutter, you should pay attention to the following factors:

Transmission oil brush

  1. Oil viscosity. All pastes on the market are divided into three main groups, namely: high-viscosity (containing additives), solid lubricants (soften during operation of the unit) and universal plastic compounds.
  2. Lubricant consumption rate. This factor is taken into account based on the owner’s personal experience and is characterized by the period between two oils. Most manufacturers schedule transmission service every 20 to 40 hours of operation.
  3. The degree of adhesion to gearbox parts. This indicator is characterized by the adhesion of oil to a set of metal trimmers.

Characteristics and features of oil for grinding machines

When servicing any hand tool with moving parts, a lubricant is used that has the following characteristics and features:

  • It should not contain solid particles that could cause damage to the moving parts of the mechanism.
  • The temperature at which the oil becomes liquid must be more than 120 degrees.
  • The oil should not absorb moisture and should form a durable film that protects parts from corrosion.
  • And most importantly, the oil must have such a viscosity that it can stay on the moving parts.

The consistency or viscosity of lubricants is divided according to the NLGI (National Lubricating Oil Institute), and in some cases it is necessary to use an oil of a certain density. The viscosity of the oil is selected depending on the speed of the transmission, the higher it is. The thinner the oil should be. Therefore, depending on the tool, the viscosity is selected:

  • Drills, hammer drills, jigsaws where the gearbox has a low speed. NLGI-2 soft oil.
  • Lightweight rotary hammers and drills. Class NLGI-1, consistency very soft.
  • Angle grinders, circular saws, brush cutters. Class NLGI-0, semi-liquid consistency.
  • Heavy hammer drills, jackhammers. Class NLGI-00 is liquid in consistency.

How to lubricate the gear trimmer?

In the upper part of the housing, where the gearbox is installed, there is a technological hole, which is tightened with a screw when the trimmer is operating. This screw is unscrewed and 1.5. 2 ml of fat is injected into the nozzle hole on the tube. If the lubricant was purchased in a different package, a regular disposable medical syringe is also suitable for this operation.

After this, the screw is installed in its original place. This procedure, regardless of the user's recommendations, must be performed every 10.15 hours of operation of the trimmer in operating mode. Other reasons for updating or replacing transmission oil are doing minor repair work yourself (for example, cleaning and washing the gearbox before the summer season), repairing the unit, storing the trimmer for the winter, etc.

If the gearbox is disassembled, it is recommended to completely remove any remaining oil from the surface of the parts, even if there are no signs of oxidation or contamination. How to lubricate a trimmer or how to lubricate the gearbox of a gasoline trimmer. And only after that apply new oil. After applying the oil, it is recommended to rotate the shaft several times by hand and make sure that the oil is evenly distributed throughout all parts of the gearbox.

When lubrication, special attention is paid to the following elements:

  1. Flywheel: grass residues tend to stick intensively to its surface, and the thickening grass juice creates additional resistance.
  2. The dog starter coil, which is in constant contact with the slots on the flywheel when the drive is engaged. In this case, not only mechanical wear occurs, but also mechanical and chemical corrosion of the flywheel-dog connection, since the materials for this pair are different (flywheel. Aluminum, dog-steel).
  3. Bearings, if their seals are worn out, are lubricated through them. How to properly lubricate the trimmer gear? No. 28 How to properly lubricate the trimmer gearbox Lubricate the gearbox. In this case, the device begins to vibrate strongly under load. This happens with Chinese-made trimmers, so in the future you should think about replacing the bearing assembly with a better one, for example, from the Swedish company SKF.

Typical malfunctions - causes and solutions

During intensive use, the gearbox may be damaged. Most of the malfunctions of this unit are typical for different brands of trimmers and can be resolved in the same way.

  1. Strong heating of the transfer unit. There are two reasons - new gears that are not worn in or lubricant: inappropriate, of poor quality or completely absent. If the problem is with the lubricant, it should be replaced with another. And new gears must be run-in for a short time without significant loads and with breaks so that the parts have time to cool.
  2. The shaft jams while driving, knocking and play appear. Such signs indicate bearing wear. It is necessary to disassemble the gearbox and install a new part. Bearing destruction is caused by poor lubrication or its absence, as well as increased load on the trimmer or metal objects entering its seat, which occurs due to a damaged boot. To remove and install a new bearing, you will need a special puller or a hammer with a wooden block. You need to hit it carefully so as not to damage the seat. Preheating it is allowed only in the most difficult cases.
  3. When mowing, the gearbox dangles or falls off the boom. This means that its body is damaged and a new part needs to be installed. If the defects are minor, you can use a metal clamp to tighten the fracture site.
  4. If the transmission mechanism does not stay on the rod, this means that the connecting point is worn out. You need to replace the rod with a new one or wrap the fastening with electrical tape if it is partially damaged.
  5. The knife on the shaft does not rotate or stops with increasing load. The reason is the wear of one of the gears or teeth. It is necessary to replace worn parts with new ones.

Most gearbox malfunctions can be resolved by the trimmer owner himself. You just need to have the right tool, spare parts (it is recommended to use original ones - for a specific model of lawn mower), and also know how to disassemble the gearbox in order to replace the damaged element with a new one.

  1. Malfunction - the trimmer gearbox gets very hot. The malfunction of the lawn mower gearbox and the lawn mower gearbox is the same as that of the trimmer. The causes of the malfunction are the lack of lubrication in the gearbox, unsuitable lubrication, or the new gearbox not being run in (when the parts have not yet been ground in). Do-it-yourself trimmer repair - add lubricant to the trimmer gearbox, replace the lubricant, or run the trimmer in a gentle mode (use three tanks of fuel under light loads and with periodic stops for natural cooling). PrivatBank in Kremenchug.
  2. Trimmer malfunction - knocking, play and jamming when rotating the trimmer gearbox shaft, brushcutter gearbox or lawn mower gearbox. The cause of the malfunction is the destruction of one of the bearings in the trimmer gearbox due to lack of lubrication in the gearbox, inappropriate lubrication, harsh operating conditions of the trimmer, damage to the boots on the bearings during their installation. Do-it-yourself trimmer repair - order bearings from the dealer and replace them (there are two or three sealed bearings) - for more details, see below “How to disassemble a trimmer gearbox / lawn mower gearbox / brush cutter gearbox.”
  3. Trimmer malfunction - the gearbox wobbles or falls off the trimmer pipe. The cause of the malfunction is mechanical damage to the gearbox housing - for example, if a piece of the housing breaks off due to a strong blow with a knife on heavy metal or stone (or if the gearbox housing is damaged, for example, with a hammer during repairs). Do-it-yourself trimmer repair - replace the gearbox housing. Or, if a small piece breaks off, make a metal clamp to tighten the fracture site. Repairing a lawn mower yourself is similar to repairing a trimmer.
  4. Trimmer malfunction - the reducer on the pipe does not clamp. As practice shows, the gearbox does not fly off the pipe at all, but theoretically, it can fly off the pipe along with the rotating knife. The malfunction of a lawn mower is similar to a trimmer. The reason for the trimmer malfunction is wear of the gearbox seat on the pipe (the aluminum of the pipe under the gearbox is worn out). Do-it-yourself trimmer repair - wrap fabric tape around the pipe under the gearbox or replace the pipe.
  5. Trimmer malfunction - the trimmer blade has stopped rotating completely (with a characteristic metallic sound) or stops rotating under high loads (with a hard gnawing sound). The cause of the malfunction is wear of the teeth on the bevel gear in the trimmer gearbox. Do-it-yourself trimmer repair - replace the pairs of bevel gears (a pair is replaced) in the gearbox - for more details, see below “How to disassemble the trimmer gearbox / lawn mower gearbox / brush cutter gearbox.”

Removing and lubricating the upper trimmer shaft

First, we remove the bottom of the rod from the coupling and then disconnect the coupling from the top of the rod (this is the coupling that connects the two halves of the rod).

Trimmer PRORAB-8406 with a removable sleeve and lower rod

Now here's the interesting part: in some videos like this, while holding the shaft clamps protruding from the top of the rod from below with pliers, they knock it out by hitting the rod with the pliers along with the roller bearing (that's the coupling that connects the top and bottom shaft). For some gasoline braids with a folding rod, as in the video, the coupling connecting the upper and lower shafts is pressed into the rolling bearing.

With our PRORAB-8406 trimmer, etc., this figure will not work. They do not have a rolling bearing, and the coupling (bushing) is a continuation of the shaft of the upper rod. A snap ring is installed on top of this shaft, which must first be removed.

Place of attachment of the upper part of the rod to the clutch housing

  1. Unscrew the central screw completely. It secures the upper part of the rod, partially entering the hole drilled in it. Unscrew the side clamp screws and remove the rod from the clutch housing.
  2. Extend the shaft from the top of the rod itself as far as the game allows you to reach the locking ring and remove it. You may need a special puller. Remove the retaining ring.

Clamp on the upper shaft of the hedge trimmer

  1. Without a retaining ring, the top shaft can be easily removed from the shaft on the opposite side. Lubricate it, not forgetting the slots in the bushings (couplings) on the rod shaft and on the clutch shaft.
  2. Place the lubricated shaft in place at the top of the rod and secure it with a locking ring. Insert the rod into the hole in the clutch cover and connect the hole on the rod to the threaded hole of the mounting screw.
  3. Install the machine screw and secure the top of the trim rod with the side screws in the clutch cover.
  4. Clean the tie rod from debris and install it from bottom to top.

I don't have a puller, but I use two large paper clips to remove the latch. First you need to straighten them, make half rings for your fingers on one side, and half rings on the other. Bend small hooks.

In many videos, technicians recommend using lubricants for CV joints, this is the best option. If it is not available, Lithol-24, oriented at temperatures up to 130 °C, can be used to lubricate the brush rod shaft. But hard oil, which has poorer lubricating properties and operates at temperatures up to 70°C, is not recommended.

However, if you urgently need to lubricate the brush cutter shaft and there are no suitable materials, then solid oil or even regular motor oil will be better than nothing.

Replacement process

Due to the different types of gears, shape and size of the seat, interchangeability of gearboxes is possible in rare cases. Therefore, when purchasing a new part, you should take into account the model of the old unit and the brand of the trimmer. In the event that you still need to use a non-original device, you must choose it taking into account the following nuances:

  • rod diameter (usually 24.5 or 26 mm);
  • seat shape and diameter (most often 8 mm);
  • method of securing protection.

If the listed parameters are the same, the old gearbox can be replaced with a suitable non-original part. And to carry out the replacement, you need to remove the gearbox from the rod and disassemble it. To do this, you will need to loosen the tension bolts located under the structure and remove a pair of corkscrew rings using pliers, and then remove the bearings from the driven and drive shafts using a special puller. To reassemble the mechanism, you need to install the removed parts in reverse order.

Assembling the gearbox is easier than disassembling it. Parts of the structure are installed in place using light hammer blows. When the device is assembled, you need to make sure that the driven shaft rotates freely if you move it by hand.

First, you should disconnect the spool of fishing line from the gearbox. It screws onto the threaded part of the mechanism gear. It is tightened by hand, and subsequently clamped under the influence of the moment of inertia during operation of the scythe. This means that there is no need to use any tools to unscrew it.

Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the special technological hole and slowly turn the reel until its end fits into the recess of the slots.

We suggest you familiarize yourself with How to make a pillow with your own hands from padding polyester

With one hand, firmly hold the screwdriver in the selected position, and with the other, unscrew the part in the opposite direction of rotation. There are gearboxes that have a special through hole for disassembly; they are easier to change.

The gearbox is attached to the rod with two bolts. One fixes it in the center, and the second clamps it and does not allow movement during operation.

Unscrew the centering bolt and remove it from the rod.

Loosen the clamp bolt two to three turns. Remove the lower gearbox; it will come off much easier if you constantly turn the body in different directions.

Using the same algorithm, insert the new one into place, aligning the holes in the body and the rod. Insert the appropriate bolt, then screw both hardware onto the gear housing until it stops.

Place the flange to drive the coil onto the shaft splines and tighten it. The flange not only rotates the cutting element, but also protects the gearbox from dirt.

Gas trimmer lubricant

Correctly selected brush care guarantees the durability and quality of the equipment. Manufacturers try to take into account all the nuances and prescribe what materials to use for maintenance. Usually the specific type of oil is not specified, only the known standards that the oils must meet.

The lubricant must be selected taking into account temperature, speed, load dynamics and vibration. Basic requirement. This mixture remains in the zone of maximum friction.

Based on the above information, it should be noted that brush manufacturers develop universal additional tools for their equipment. Can be served by general industrial trains. The main condition is compliance with operating conditions, namely the presence of a substance against rust and lime, as well as a filler consisting of solid oil. Oil is poured into the gearbox through a special hole; the unit is not dismantled.

The replacement is pretty quick.

First turn off your device. Gasoline devices must be drained of gasoline. If the lubrication changes completely, be sure to flush the gearbox. To do this, first fill the vacuum, then rinse the transmission thoroughly, and then drain the water.

It is important to completely clean the case. The special tool that comes with the trimmer must unscrew the transmission fork. Apply new lubricant: insert a syringe with a tube into the hole and squeeze out the lubricant (2-5 ml). Manually rotate the shaft and run the belt at low speed with no load. This is necessary for high-quality distribution of oil in places with maximum friction.

How to lubricate the trimmer gearbox?

It is necessary to introduce a new lubricant into the working mechanism of the lawn mower only with the tool previously turned off. You need to remove the top cap or plug from the trimmer's spark plug. The brush cutter itself should be in its natural position; it should not be turned over, as this may lead to leakage of the fuel mixture.

Gear lube for the trimmer is applied in the following order:

  1. The operator must first remove the screw located on the side of the built-in gearbox. Some manufacturers equip their lawn mowers with hex key screws, others - with 17mm allen bolts. In both the first and second cases, the threads on the fasteners are normal. To remove the clamps, the key must be turned counterclockwise. In this case, you need to be extremely careful and careful not to lose the sealing rubber washer;
  2. After this, you need to inspect the end inner side of the screw. If no traces of oil are visible on its surface, it means that about 3–4 g of lubricant should be added inside the standard gearbox. To ensure that the substance is evenly distributed throughout the gears and other parts, you need to slowly turn the gear by hand. This action must be repeated several times;
