All-terrain vehicle from Chelyabinsk - “Metelitsa”

All-terrain vehicle -Metelitsa- - a unique platform for a passenger car

A unique tracked platform has been developed and patented in Chelyabinsk, on which passenger cars of domestic or imported origin can be mounted. This project is aimed at improving the quality of life of ordinary people living in the circumpolar and polar regions, the Far East and Siberia. The creator of the invention is Vladimir Maltsev.

All-terrain vehicle capabilities

When combined with a car, the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle is an off-road vehicle for driving through snow of any depth and density, swamps, unstable soils, and for overcoming water obstacles. The module has high reliability and cross-country ability, not inferior to Canadian snow and swamp-going vehicles.

All-terrain vehicle -Metelitsa- - a unique platform for a passenger car

The Metelitsa tracked all-terrain vehicle can transport cargo weighing up to 1 ton on a separate trailer. Areas of use:

  • patrolling and repair of oil and gas pipelines;
  • power line research;
  • border security;
  • geological exploration expeditions;
  • search and rescue of people in emergency situations;
  • carrying out hunting and fishing in hard-to-reach areas;
  • trip to the mountains;
  • skiing.

The first version was created in 2003; now the second generation of the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle has already been developed and is being produced.

Technical characteristics of the all-terrain vehicle "Metelitsa"

To increase the maximum load capacity, the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle kit includes a special ski trailer that allows you to transport heavy loads. And for service and rescue services, the developers have proposed a special MHD electric generator; if it is included in the kit, rescuers, if necessary, will be able to cut or weld metal with electrodes whose thickness is up to five millimeters. This machine has no analogues anywhere in the world. Having received a patent for the invention, the developers created something truly universal and original. The wide range of applications of the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle allows you to patrol and repair oil and gas pipelines, inspect power lines, patrol borders, search for missing people in hard-to-reach and extreme areas, hunt, fish in areas that cannot be reached by a regular car, and more.

Design Features

The structure of the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle looks like a tank, only without a turret; its place on the platform is occupied by a car.

The advantages include the following factors:

  • Low specific pressure on the soil surface (0.07 kg/cm3) does not disturb the plant layer of the soil.
  • Steering and passenger comfort remain at the level of a conventional passenger car.
  • “Changing” a car (in particular, a Niva) from a wheeled vehicle to a tracked all-terrain vehicle takes about 2 hours.
  • The weight and size of the platform structure allows it to be transported to the place of intended use on a trailer.
  • At the customer's request, it is possible to supply it in a container in disassembled form for assembling the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle platform on site. The platform design is an excellent combination of efficiency, maneuverability, reliability and stability.

Technical characteristics of the Metelitsa tracked module

"Metelitsa" is considered economical, stable and has the highest cross-country ability. It is equipped with its own transmission and control system, which, when installed, do not change the basic characteristics of the car in any way. The tracked platform has the following parameters:

  • total weight of the platform is about 900 kg;
  • track material – a combination of metal and rubber;
  • ground clearance – 35 cm, platform width – 2.45 m, length – 3.95 m;
  • surface pressure – 0.07 kg/cm3;
  • transverse angle overcome - 170, longitudinal - 300;
  • speed limit on off-road or snowy surfaces is 50 km/h, on water – up to 5 km/h;
  • The width of each track is no more than 0.8 m (the design provides for one of the tracks to be turned off when turning, which ensures maneuverability).

Production

Opening and launching production requires a lot of money, although the patent for the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle was obtained in 2003, due to the financial component, it took quite a lot of time to open the enterprise.

Today, the production of platforms is about a hundred per year, production is expanding every year, branches for the production of Metelitsa are being opened in other cities. The first cities to open representative offices were Tyumen and Salekhard.

The newly opened branches constantly require employees for assembly, maintenance and organization of product sales. It takes about a month to produce one unit.

Snow and swamp-going vehicle "Metelitsa" from a domestic manufacturer

Everyone knows that the lion's share of the territory of our country is cold, deserted steppes and forests. More than half of the total population lives in the European part. The rest of the territory attracts us only because of its natural resources and the opportunity to relax in an extreme spirit. You can’t really explore the taiga with its snow and off-road conditions; here you can only move on tracked vehicles. It was for these needs in Chelyabinsk that one craftsman developed the Metelitsa snow and swamp all-terrain vehicle, or rather, a platform module for a passenger car.

To make it clear, I’ll tell you how everything happens. The car drives onto the platform, then the wheels are removed from it, the suspension is attached to the module, and the car body itself is screwed on for a stable ride. The vehicle's hydraulics are connected to the system on the platform. This allows you to retain traditional steering and brake controls. When you turn the steering wheel in any direction, one of the tracks slows down with the appropriate force and the all-terrain vehicle goes in the right direction. The vehicle's crane is connected to the platform bridge. With appropriate preparation, you will need no more than 2 hours to remake.

The resulting hybrid is able to move even on water, thanks to removable pontoons. Before traveling on water, pontoons are attached to a platform, and after overcoming a water obstacle they can be mounted on the roof of a car or on a trailer.

We can say that there are no similar platform modules in other countries. The domestic model has a number of advantages over a conventional all-terrain vehicle. Firstly, the price of a module with a car is several times less than a ready-made all-terrain vehicle. Secondly, its dimensions and weight allow it to be freely transported on a trailer to its destination without any additional permits.

This development will be useful when conducting research in hard-to-reach places, for examining and analyzing the condition of gas and oil pipelines, and power lines. In oil production areas, such a vehicle is perfect for employees of mining companies. In our harsh climate, the demand for the Metelitsa snow and swamp all-terrain vehicle will be constant.

The author of this invention is Vladimir Maltsev, general director of Chelyabtrak. The platform module was patented back in 2003 and the idea has not yet developed into mass production. The reason, as always, is banal - lack of funds to launch full-fledged production. There are already orders for the original development, the only thing left to do is to find investors.

The author of the idea claims that a business plan with all the calculations is already ready. Representative offices will be opened in the relevant regions (Far East, Siberia, Primorye, Salekhard, Tyumen), and further implementation will be increasingly carried out in other regions. To start, you will need at least 500 thousand dollars to manufacture production equipment specifically for this all-terrain vehicle.

A little bit of history

Back in 2003, a patent was received for the Metelitsa snow and swamp-going vehicle. But financial problems arose that made it impossible to continue working. Any enterprise needs serious money in order to enter mass production. And time to accumulate them. The Metelitsa snow and swamp-going vehicle was no exception.

Currently, representative offices of the main Chelyabinsk plant are opening in almost every region where these services are really in demand. Salekhard and Tyumen became the first regions to adopt the new idea. Representative offices are needed to sell products and provide technical service.

Useful:

Company representatives undergo training in Chelyabinsk itself. Purchasing equipment and transport, manufacturing cast molds - each field of activity requires certain financial investments, even if there is already some base.

Installation and compatibility

Today it is possible to install only all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive cars “Niva”, “Zhiguli”, “Subaru”, “Wrangel” and so on. Soon, Chelyabinsk engineers and designers plan to launch an updated version of the Metelitsa all-terrain vehicle, which will be compatible with front-wheel drive vehicles.

Installation sequence:

  • The car drives onto the platform on its own.
  • The wheels are removed one by one.
  • The car is lowered onto special holders using a jack.
  • The traction, control system and chassis are connected.
  • Brake fluid is filled and pumped.
  • The all-terrain vehicle is ready for use.
  • When summer comes, you can screw the wheels back on, drive off the platform and get back to your usual passenger car.

    More details about technical characteristics

    The snow and swamp-going vehicle "Metelitsa" is intended for passenger cars and minibuses belonging to the middle class. The module has its own transmission and control system, but this does not change the basic characteristics of the vehicle itself.

    1. The width of the tracks reaches 800 mm.
    2. They themselves are made of an alloy of rubber and metal.
    3. Separately, it is worth noting the use of lever-spring suspension.
    4. As for the dimensions, they will be as follows. The width will be up to 2450 mm, length - 3950.
    5. It is also necessary to consider the angles to be overcome. The transverse is 17 degrees, the longitudinal is 30.
    6. The ground clearance is 350 mm.
    7. The Metelitsa tracked platform has a specific pressure on the surface of 0.07 kgcm3.
    8. The maximum speed level on water is 5 km/h, on land – 50 km/h.
    9. 2950 kilograms is the weight of the car when fully loaded.
    10. The module has a total weight of approximately 900 kilograms.

    Economy, stability and cross-country ability are the main characteristics that developers pay the most attention to improving. In order to achieve the best results during operation, it is recommended to completely remove the rear and front drive wheels. The vehicle itself is installed directly on the tracked module. Even vehicles with a mileage of ten years or more can be easily installed.

    Price

    You can only purchase Metelitsa directly through the manufacturer. To do this, you can contact him by phone or email. Approximate price:

  • for VAZ Niva from 290 thousand rubles;
  • for imported cars with a manual transmission – from 450 thousand rubles;
  • for the UAZ line of cars – from 450 thousand rubles.
  • It should be noted that the latest videos posted by the manufacturer have been deleted. The company website also does not exist. However, when ordering the Metelitsa tracked all-terrain vehicle, the manufacturer requires 100% prepayment. It may be worth paying more attention to such a serious purchase.

    Metelitsa tracked module for cars

    How to make a tracked snow and swamp-going vehicle from your own ordinary car, and even independently, without anyone’s help? And it's very simple! If you simply remove the wheels of a passenger car and then put it on tracks, or more precisely, on the specialized Metelitsa tracked platform, then the car will turn out to be an excellent all-terrain vehicle.

    Such an off-road vehicle will be very useful for those who often or constantly have to move through snow of varying depths and densities, on soils with low bearing capacity, overcome swamps and shallow water obstacles, and maybe even deep ones, if additionally quick-detachable pontoons are installed.

    It's great! And all this is your own car with a comfortable interior and familiar controls! And after “walking” along the Russian off-road, Niva, Zhiguli, Wrangel, Subaru and any other vehicles with rear- or all-wheel drive will quickly get back their “favorite” traditional wheels and, having driven off the tracks, will again rush along the asphalt.

    The Metelitsa tracked platform , developed by tough Chelyabinsk inventors and welders, has no analogues in the world! Only Russian inventors can make a super-all-terrain vehicle from an ordinary city car, and at a price that is significantly lower than if you decided to buy a traditional swamp vehicle, which cannot be driven into the city, since it is prohibited to travel on public roads on snow and swamp vehicles.

    The dimensions and light weight of the Metelitsa tracked module make it possible to transport it on a passenger car trailer to the place where it is going to be used for its intended purpose. It’s an unusual feeling when in the city you drive a regular car, and outside the city you change into a super all-terrain vehicle. This is a new level of mobility - two in one.

    The scope of application of such a tracked auto attachment is very extensive. This could be patrolling borders and repairing oil and gas pipelines or inspecting power lines and geological exploration; with the help of the universal all-terrain vehicle Metelitsa, you can search for and save people during emergencies, and recreation, hunting, and fishing in hard-to-reach areas will become more accessible! In addition, to increase the carrying capacity of the resulting snow and swamp-going vehicle, the tracked module is equipped with a ski trailer, which can transport cargo weighing up to one ton.

    As already mentioned, in order to be able to cross rivers and lakes, this platform can be equipped with quick-release pontoons. And for rescue and service services, the developers propose to equip the Metelitsa snow and swamp all-terrain vehicle with an MHD electric generator, with which you can cut and weld metal with electrodes up to five millimeters thick.
